Tonverk: bug reports

Hi,

I found this weird bug:
It is a full project with almost all tracks used. If I create this in a new empty project, I can’t replicate this behavior. Saving it under a new name also keeps the problem.

This is the problem:

Select a track in Subtracks
Record some tricks
Press the record button for editing trigs
p-lock on a recorded trig for example a fill condition, rtrg, rtrim
save the project
reload the project
p-locks are randomly saved or not at all for all subtracks

Has anyone came across this problem?

edit: I just read in the comments above that there are similar problems with the p-locks not saving correctly. Placed a ticket for the support team.

Maybe this has something to do with component tolerances. As far as I know some Elektron machines are using endless potentiometers instead of encoders. Maybe the issue can be compensated with tweaking the software. It wouldn’t be the first time that improvements have been made here.

However, I have no problems so far. For further clarification I would contact the support.

i dont know if this is a bug or not, but i cannot work out how to paste an entire subtrack page into its next page. say, pasting steps 1-16 into 17-32. if 17-32 is empty, i cant find a way to populate it. i can copy and paste individual subtracks (like a kick drum) into the next page by copying using the ‘PAGE’ button, but that would require me to paste 8 subtracks everytime i want to extend the loop… am i missing something? i’ve owned and been happy with Oct, DT and DT. i cant figure this one out.

annoyingly, the project has remembered an old version of my loop, so when i extend even further beyond 32 steps, it automatically populates with an old sequence.

I assume it has already been mentioned; there is probably already a ticket for it—or am I just being stupid? Please tell me:
Is there a global tempo for an entire project? Or do I have to change EVERY pattern individually?

(If I’m understanding what you’re trying to do correctly) Did you try entering “step edit” mode and then copy/paste the sequence to the next page? In regular grid recording mode copying the sequence only applies to the currently selected subtrack. Step edit mode allows you to gather all sequence data across all 8 subtracks. That was tripping me up for awhile, I couldn’t copy the sequence across all 8 subtracks and paste elsewhere until Patrik at elektron explained this to me.

The bug where it starts up with “Perfome On” feels like a nightmare.

Is the delayed timing of MIDI track playback caused by MIDI jitter?

When I turn the chord trigger off and then back on, it only plays a single note — is that intentional behavior?

It feels like there are quite a lot of bugs, but I’m confident that Tonverk will be the key to improving the composition workflow.

I get latency just sending audio through it without any sequencing, so I don’t think it’s just a midi issue

That was it. Step edit mode allows copying of entire subtrack. Much appreciated

Is anyone else experiencing this?

A bunch of DRUMS presets don’t contain drums:

047 BOS NOW KIT
048 ACOUSTIC EDIT KIT
049 FUB KIT
056 TIGHT KIT
057 BYU KIT

None of these sounds, each listed in the DRUMS section, actually contain drum sounds - for me, they all load exactly the same preset sound, a short Multi Player synth sound.

175 SC Triangle 3 (Keys, Multiplayer) is faulty:

Two notes on the middle octave of the keyboard are clipped and don’t ring out the way the rest of the notes do. They loop a short blip alternating with silence instead of a sustained triangle wave sound.

And a few more:

In the DRUMS section of the presets, number 012 is DIDGI ARP which is actually a melodic arp sound (single player)

092 KROMATA TWO KIT, also listed in DRUMS, is an organ chord sound (Single Player)

Love to know, is there something wrong with my SD card, or are others experiencing the same?

Nothing wrong with your card, broken presets reported but not yet fixed.

Thanks for the response. Do you experience any of the exact same problems or are they different?

Same presets

Yes.

Hi everyone, here’s another update from us. More - and regular - info coming soon.

Connected my keytstep 37 set to internal clock to the Tonverk with just one midi cable. Playing notes and aftertouch works, bend and modwheel does not.

Can anybody else confirm modwheel and bend does not work?

(of course I had configured modwheel macro settings and the preview in the tonverk does work)

Anyone know if sequencer playback jitter is part of the midi jitter issue? Internal sequencer sounds off beat sometimes…

I’m also using an Ensoniq VFX, and neither the mod wheel nor the pitch bend worked.

I thought it might be a settings issue on either the Tonverk or the VFX, but I haven’t been able to solve it yet.

After sampling via USB normalizing doesn’t work as expected (sound is much quieter after normalizing). It doesn’t happen every time, but it happens frequently.

I like to imagine that some of these are not problems with the presets, but that they used functionality that wasn’t quite ready for release that has been disabled in the initial releases, therefore “breaking” the preset.

Elektron has a long established history of updating their products. It’s one of the biggest parts of why I support them. All products have bugs, and how the company responds to those problems either makes me a lifetime customer or a sworn enemy. Dirtywave m8 is one of the products for me, my 4 elktron boxes are like that for me, and conversely another company known for their portable tracker will never earn another dollar from me.

So, while i’m sure many people have faith in the company, communication is the only way we have to know that you’re aware and working on it. Otherwise we’re like the disciples out here preaching to have faith that the sky god cares about us minute and wretched things
