To dos in New York

Hi all, I’m staying in New York for two weeks, it would be great hear any recommendations on clubbing/synth stores to visit or just any curiosities you can come up with really, much appreciated!

You go to a huge tourist spot and you ask for recommendations on an electronic gear forum.

Salutes on your priorities!

Haha I’m sure there is lot more going on here than just the touristy stuff!

Make sure to visit control and main drag in brooklyn!

My sister lives in Manhattan and many friends up there, so these would be my immediate suggestions:

  • ART: Brooklyn Museum, MOMA, and Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum for things to see.
  • ESSENTIAL: Central Park for a nice walk.
  • FOOD: Xi’an Famous Foods (Western Chinese food), Momofuku (ramen), and Caracas (arepas!), tons of Korean spots that are surely tasty in K-town (I’ve only been to one many years ago, but dang it was good)…
  • MUSIC: Issue Project Room, Silent Barn, Trans-Pecos all might be worth checking out if they’re still all running.
  • SPORTS: Hit up a Mets, Knicks, Rangers, whatever game and soak up the vibes…

Check out Ctrl Mod in Brooklyn for synths and modular. It’s not huge but the guys there are really nice. Three Wave Music is in North Jersey and is a synth mecca. Mandarin Court at 61 Mott Street is fantastic Chinese food.

I just came back from Control and you’re right they are super nice, the guy showed me how this modular stuff works, maybe NJ after NYE

Another cool synth store is Rogue Music in 30th street, those guys actually let you trade in those synths you wanna get rid of which I think is a great thing

If anyone is ito graffiti stuff then Bushwick Collective has some super dope stuff going on for you

The Xi’an Famous Foods is soo good!! Also the ramen at Momofuku but man the Xi’an killed it

Glad you liked it. I studied western Chinese/central Asian history in graduate school, so it has a special place in my heart and that’s got some pretty solid options. Plus, one of the locations is a few doors down from my sister’s place in the upper east side, so it’s hard to NOT swing by

Upping the topic!

Going to NY next week! Any more recommendations regarding music clubs (electro and/or jazz) and stuff?

Thanks!

I’d take a photo of myself sitting on that park bench from NAS’s cover from “Illmatic” LP.

Just sayin’
