hi,

I have tried to put 2 signals into input A and input B.
do i need necessarly to put a thru machine ( with seetings " IN A+B ") to ear these signals 2 signals in mono or is there a trick to do it without using a thru machine ?

If I remember correctly you can do it without a through machine by setting up the mixer A+B to go directly to Main

Hey Dekalboy,

In order to listen to the input AB you dont need a THRU machine…

Go to the Mixer page, at the right side you will see GAIN AB and at its left “DIR” … this conctrol the “Direct” signal that comes from the AB (or CD inputs) and pass them trough the master output… but you wont be able to affect them in any way… just rout them out.

I think what he’s asking is whether you can hear them not as a stereo pair though

I think when you use the “dir” setting in the mixer it treats the input pairs as stereo pairs and pans them

in the mixer session you cant set the inputs a and b as mono but only as stereo ab

Having the same issue here. I think I’ll have to pick just 2 external devices to route through OT instead of 3 or 4, because I don’t want to take up valuable sequencing/mangling space using a THRU track, although I’d be giving up effects on the externals.

Sorry, to get mono things into the octa without weird panning stuff that goes wrong.
I do not know… but

I am having great fun by sampling the thru machines…
Leftside (track1 to 4) used by thru machines. track 5 to 8 used as playback of the sampled versions.

use fader to switch from left to right side of octatrack to controll what is playing back.
and use that neat track + record button to grab loops while tinkering in on leftside
reset/program something new/change pattern external stuff while tinkering on the rightside…

But yeah, might not be the most fun aproach for everybody.

if you search the forum, people use pickup machines + flex machines and switch parts to get from recording to playback…

maybe a combination of all these techniques would workout to something nice.
so you do get sample mangling and prerecorded samples + live input stuff together.

Hi elektrodorks :slight_smile:

in order to use the dir inputs with two monophonic synths without using the thru machines you need to get mono Y cables.
you may need to make them up yourself or modify an insert cable by shorting the tip & ring if you cant buy them at your local. u could get those cheap 6mm 2 into 1 adaptors but they are pretty shitty

of course this limits the OT inputs to two, but this limitation is elektrons questionable idea anyway.

feature request? pannable direct inputs anyone?
