It never fails to astonish me how frequently we E’nauts will take a thread that has been quite specifically framed, and almost immediately transform it into another different topic, or two, which are just a rehash of the same old, same old.
Entropy … gravity.

There is also a good amount of threads that turn into the state of being the only active thread in a category. And then get turned into a very general ask everything you ever wanted to know.
The concept of dedicated threads seems to be hard to grasp for some I suspect.

It’s a dynamic common to forums and I’m using it to get some creative help in “Simon Says”. I agree that it’s frustrating when looking for very particular information but it’s useful for broadening a line of inquiry. A forum user can but doesn’t have to read the initial post and is usually left with the title in long threads. That makes extrovert people test the waters by entering the conversation on a low level, just like around a camp fire where the original speaker was on the other side and the OP got lost. So try using it to exhaust options when looking for something, happy accidents… I read the OP but accidentally skipped the rest this time lol.

As i said in my suggestion, it was on-topic, but only peripherally. That someone else said something, related to a topic is not justification for further discussion, and explanation for how it is on-topic.
Your post was extremely well done and thought out, and i found it very interesting. My friendly suggestion was for a new thread, which would improve the forum, and do justice to the topic.

It’s getting bad over in the Orchid thread. Elektronauts have got the off-topic posting down. It’s all the same group, i already had 'em pegged, and on ignore, so no surprise.

Not exactly thread topic entropy, but frequently when a new thread is released on these forums, I have to ask myself if it really deserves its own thread, or if it falls within the topic of an established thread. A typical example of this is when someone finds a new bug with the Tonverk and deems it necessary to devote a fresh thread to its discussion. Prolific thread spawning is a hallmark of narcissism, IMO. Those same narcissists are the ones, in my imagination, who foster negative connotations regarding “necro posting”.

Been on forums since late 90’s. But never understood the negative “necro posting” label. The thread is there. It already exists. Just revive it from time to time. No need for new threads every time someone has similar questions.
Don’t see what the big deal is. Probably some valuable info/advice in there. Just tack onto it and let people read previous posts if they want. Do people who hate “necro posting” also want to get rid of old books, etc.?
