Hey all, I am looking for some clarity on the electrical situation of my new to me home that I’ll be moving into on the 2nd. It was built in '68, a year before 3-wire systems became standard in my region.
Unfortunately it’s a 2 wire system grounded externally. I have consulted with the house inspector and an electrician who have assured me that the system is grounded and perfectly sound.
They stated that it poses no risk to my equipment and that I can replace the 2 prong outlet’s with 3 prong outlets, so long as I don’t try wiring neutral to the ground, but just wire it up as 2 prong outlets, all will be fine to power my equipment.
So here are my concerns…
Do I need to also use an external 3 prong adapter with a ground tab screwed into the cover’s center mounting screw?
I don’t have ton of gear, but I do have a few pieces of very valuable (to me) equipment. I’m not concerned with my OT, DN and other units that are already powered via 2 prong.
I am however concerned about the following:
-Eventide Orville
-SSL Six
-SSL Fusion
-Kush Electra and Tweakers
I currently run these all plugged into a metered rackmount power strip, which is then plugged into an A/V power conditioner. The power conditioner is then plugged into an APC regulated battery back up.
Am I truly safe to continue using this gear on a properly grounded 2 wire system?
