Thinking of 2 samplers

Just using two samplers in a rig? Does anyone else do this. Is it hard work . Cheers

What do you mean with hard work?
I had a OT and DT combo for a while. Was working like a charm
I often think that I’d actually need two OTs when working outside of my laptop, since I constantly run out of tracks. Less synths and instead two samplers would be beneficial for my way of working I suppose.
I have the OP1… I only used it standalone so far. Should use it with the OT. The sampler is limited but quite easy. The cool thing is I can play samples polyphonically. This is my major gripe with elektron samplers.

I was thinking of it too. I have a DT and if I were to add just 1 thing i was thinking of the Blackbox.

Why stop at 2

have to take another look on the blackbox. Gets mentioned here quite often

I was using the blackbox, sp404 and OT, all together and it was a blast.

Blackbox and sp404 have now been sold (to fund a mpc one, microfreak and some little bits)

I use OT, SP404, OP-Z together sometimes. But I actually would prefer 2 OT’s

I keep dreaming of a dual ot set up. Decided on the mpc one to cover the bases the OT doesn’t, mainly when playing live. But if it doesn’t happen, I’ll be on the 2xOT.

Lately, I’ve been running a DT into an SP404. They compliment each other nicely because what one lacks, the other excels in. The 404 has longer sample time and stereo samples and I use the DT to sequence the 404, avoiding the awkward 404 sequencer. Its been pretty fun.

but then i wonder about getting an OT… and the cycle continues.

Yeah for me the DT - Sp404 combo is gold as they perfectly compliment each others strengths and weaknesses.

DT: detailed sequencing, synth sounds, great for finetuning drum sounds, clean sound, a very quick but precise, programming workflow.

Sp: long samplingtime, stereo sampling, great (some lofi) fx, a very ‘playable’ inprecise workflow.

I use the dt to sequence the sp, and run everything throught its fx

It has to happen here too, 1 OT for Drums/Perc and another for all the rest. Case closed

I use a digitakt and blackbox in my set. for the most part I use the digitakt for drums/one shots/some mono samples and the blackbox for pads/stereo samples/anything that needs polyphony and I also live sample/loop my modular system to it. works really well for what I need.

I often pair the OT and Blackbox. OT as master, blackbox records and does drum duties/poly samples/etc…

I have found that single cycle waveforms and complex waveforms are way more fun than I realized.

I just love the happy accidents of samplers. And when you have a nice groove going on in one, adding another one to the mix is great!

I have thought about a second OT but unclear…seems to be a recurring theme in this thread haha

EDIT: To answer the actual question

It’s work, but it’s not hard because you end up just jamming until you realize things are happening and save. Done. No patches to worry about, no knob positions to recreate, no synths to warm up. Just jam and save.

Not everyone works this way but I’ll often work on one sampler until I run out of room/ideas for that specific workflow and then when I move on to the other it’s a whole new spice.

I can understand how daunting it can feel but it’s more rewarding than not.

I’ve followed this guy for some time and love his mixes. He usually manually syncs two octatrack. Looks like he’s added a digitakt to his setup recently.

I had an mpc 1000 and octatrack for a while. It was a great combo with each completing the others weaknesses.
I used the OT mainly for drum loops and time stretched stuff and the mpc for single hit drums and pads and other things I could play on the pads. I miss that setup in a way but I also disliked the OT a lot because it was too complex for my needs.

A classic hip hop setup is an MPC (maybe a 2000XL) and an SP-404. Audio out of both and into each other for maximum flexibility.

Too bad there are no new MPC’s without touchscreens,… I would definitely get one to join the OT as a sampler force. Will get the ALM Squid Sample though.

I’m not a fan of touch screens either, but to be honest with you, I really do feel like this is a retelling of the time when mobile phones were starting to become touch screen based. I didn’t want to use a touch screen to type because I didn’t believe I would have the speed or dexterity to type on a flat surface. Now I’m as fast if not faster than I was on a phone with buttons. It’s so much easier to draw automation with a touch screen for example. And create custom LFOs. Though I must say that when I had an MPC Live I didn’t like using the touch screen for inputting notes on the grid because it wasn’t sensitive enough to do what I wanted, such as pinching to zoom and entering notes into specific blocks on the grid.

Getting back on topic, get an MPC 1000 with JJOS2XL.

You are right, I should stop doing that! Getting old and that’s proof right there.

Nah, I am grey and in my 40’s … an Iphone is enough touch screen for me. If I get another sampler it has to fit into my modular of course

I have the ALM Squid.

For I am.
