Things I learned from listening to James Blunt - a miserable git apology thread

I was in a shop yesterday and some Coldplay song was playing and after it the radio DJ said “this will be Coldplay’s final single”.

Not gonna lie, I did a little cheer. Fell off the wagon before I’d even started…

why people hate on coldpay? because of the plain music or something about the band members?

For me, it’s the music.

ah, I thought there’s a “they are cunts” angle too.

Briefly met the singer once before they were famous, on their first tour. Seemed like any other singer really, and I was about 19 at the time, so probably the bigger dickhead.

I read this whole thing very confused thinking you were on about James Blake

And the lyrics.

A Danish friend used to like Coldplay… until he had enough English to finally understand the lyrics.

But I’m happy for their success.

About the topic in general

It’s fine to hate on stuff … fun even, but keep it to yourself and your mates. Amplified on Social Media just creates more hate.

Also psy trance FTW … the kick is never too loud

James Blunt is a master of witty replies to negative criticisms, so you’d have probably got served if you’d heckled him online.

I’ve never listened to his “other” music, but i’ll admit to singing “You’re Beautiful” a few times when i’ve been drunk with my goggle eyes, so he’s changed my life in some ways.

I do like Coldplay though and don’t understand how they became the most hated band on earth.

I read this whole thing thinking it was James Blake, imagine my confusion

Edit - looks like I wasn’t the only one

Perhaps it’s an almost physical reaction to anything that’s continually pushed in your face. You can’t get away from it and therefore that anger is channeled in a negative way.

I can’t listen to the radio or watch tv for those reasons.

I’m just grateful I can hear, even if it’s some tune I wouldn’t regularly listen to!

Fuck complaining, fuck hate! Life’s too short for that shit!

I don’t exclude myself from music trivia. I participate every time but keep my opinions to myself. I am just sharing my feelings on this matter. I am not pretending to be some kind of moral authority.

À lot of non English listeners don’t get lyrics, unless they decide to read it. For my appreciation of music, understanding lyrics is definitely not really important. A lot of things coming from the non verbal realm (not the lyrics but the way it is sung) matter way more.
Timbre, expressivity etc.
On the other hand, I only listen to a very few French artists, because yeah then I understand their words and most of the time it ruins everything ahah

Agreed. But don’t loose your cuntyness completely. Uttering near irrational hate and despise, shitting on people who do things better than you, only because it’s not as good as you would like it to be, it’s all a part of ancient fucks keeping their youthful vibrancy.
