The Vinyl Thread

Most likely whoever your collection goes to will just get rid of it. My dad has old blues records worth thousands of dollars. I don’t want that. Sure i would take the proceeds from selling it but zero point in me owning something like that. I definitely have a collecting disease. I have around 50 records and have only spun one so far, vast majorty cadabra. I like the cadabra stuff so maybe i get around to it some day. Cadabra only releases on vinyl. Thats what got me to even buy a record player. If they offered digital releases I would have bought that. But yeah vinyl is just not for me for the most part. I like the ability to play whatever though. I have a vcr hooked up also. I bought around 10 vhs of old movies I like. So far only played one of them. I tell myself maybe when I retire maybe I will appreciate this stuff more and have more time to enjoy it. I do like turning everything off and reading a physical book. I think of records as a similar thing.

I’m sorry if that’s how you see it, but the people who stand to inherit my record collection feel the exact opposite.

But that’s neither here nor there, because my record collection isn’t about them, nor would your suggestion to collect stocks and cash fill my soul or theirs.

And if that’s all you hope to inherit from your predecessors, well… I can’t help you there. But maybe you’ll feel differently someday.

At any rate, this is a thread for people who love vinyl.

I don’t hope to inherit anything. I am likely going to have to handle a lot of my parents stuff and it seems overwhelming. Who knows though. What people do with your stuff is no longer your concern when you are dead. You should collect for yourself of course. My dad likes to say i will get some crap someday and I don’t know what to say to that. I don’t want any of it. Sure I will keep some photos or something but records have zero sentimental value for me. They are just things. I know that can vary from person to person.

Anyway back to vinyl. One thing i do like about it is the large art and booklets some come with. And i like cadabra and it makes me wonder if anyone here is aware of any other obscure labels that only release things on vinyl?
