The Vinyl Thread

I lost the SOSW vinyl in a separation, I should have left an arm there instead.

I had a little splurge on some deep house 12s, courtesy of Ron Trent, Theo Parrish and Simoncino.

I want to share this story somewhere.

So after a 15-year intermittent relationship with vinyl, I am now living in a more stable situation, and can get back in in earnest. Got my Project Debut III a new belt, tonearm calibration and oil change. Will upgrade the cartridge eventually to a VM95E.

So I am going through my catalogue, filling up my Discogs wishlist. I don’t have Homework, so in it goes. Somehow I caught a glimpse of what Discovery is going for and, totally bewildered, compared my version to Discogs and, sure enough, I have a first pressing. The most expensive ones have the “Daft Club” membership card in tact. Positive there was no way mine did, I checked at least for the membership instruction sleeve. And I pull this out:

And I have a number of >100eur records. I had no idea. I just love it when my taste is vindicated both critically and financially :sunglasses: lol

My toxic trait: I feckin love vinyl.

Anyone got a copy of Holy Other “With U” they are willing to part with? That’s my next aim. Anyone got other low-key marketplaces not Discogs or Ebay?

Obviously if I enjoy it a lot. If my time with an album via streaming gets to a point where I decide I will get the vinyl, I stop listening to it until I can pick up the vinyl. I don’t have a huge record budget, so I’m very picky. Vinyl is unfortunately dumb expensive these days. I’ll also double check others’ reports on pressing quality. Lotta shit pressings out there, especially from the big boys.

Sorry last edit: I’ve come to know Low’s Double Negative well via digital. I’ve finally just fired up the vinyl I’ve had shrink wrapped forever. Just a massive thing: 3D, nuanced, depth, and my god the bass at the end of Tempest. I’m so happy to be back.

Glad I found this thread!
I just had a “Holy sh*t!” moment. I’ve been collecting records for over 25 years. My stepdad was a collector so when I got in to punk rock as a kid it was natural.

I just looked up the price of some records on Amazon since they’ve really upped their stock and saw JT’s FutureSex/LoveSounds for $24.56. I had bought that in 09 when I had a roommate who was a DJ and he asked if I wanted to join in once a week. He had a house fire so all my dance friendly records were at his place since I only had a motorcycle so he would bring my records in his car. Amazon just told me I payed $12.66 for it in 09. I know how inflation works, but it just kinda struck me seeing the actual amount I paid versus what it costs now.

Just bought a few LPs and wanted to share some lovely parts.

Yaya Bey - Remember your North Star

Youth Lagoon - Heaven is a Junkyard

Helado Negro - Phasor

It’s not expensive, rare or anything but my favorite!

So I recently bought a gen7 iPod classic and am annoyed that most records don’t come with digital download. I’m trying to get fully away from streaming, but I also don’t want to but the record and CD. I’m just being a whiny pee pants.

Yeah, they stopped giving download codes like five years ago. I used to be obsessive about the vinyl having the code, but after having had my iTunes library completely destroyed twice or thrice, I just can’t be bothered anymore.

Oof! That’s a huge bummer! Thankfully some of the smaller labels still do it. Also if I buy the record from bandcamp I get the downloads as well.

I’m off streaming completely now.

I got a phono stage that has USB out, so I just rip the record to MP3 on first listen.

Mine’s a Vincent, but I think Art and Rega both make them from £100-ish.

That compilation looks great. I love this kind of stuff. I’ll keep my eyes open for a copy!

Lately I’ve been enjoying the You’re Not From Around Here comp from Numero (and the sequel They Move in the Night). Looking forward to the third one in the trilogy.

I bought the AFX ambient work reissue vinyl few months ago because I love this record and I wanted to finally get into vinyls.

Now they’re shipping and I didn’t manage to buy a turn table

What would you guys recommend?
I’m not sure I much I should spend but I don’t need to most expensive, just something correct. I also have an amplifier, if that count.

Thank!

I really enjoy my Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB. Obviously a SL1200 ripoff but does the job.

I upgraded from a cheaper AT to the Fluance RT81 Turntable with AT95E Cartridge, Belt Drive, Built-in Preamp, Adjustable Counterweight - Piano White earlier this year as I went down a vinyl rabbit hole and I’ve been very pleased with it. Probably best turntable I’ve owned and for the give or take $250 I paid for it, it’s a steal. Fluance decks are held in pretty high regard it seems.

Thanks @BlankFlag and @jiffybox !
They seems to be reasonably priced, I’ll have a look more in detail.

Your post reminded me that I was meaning to pick up a copy. It arrived today.

That pic :point_up_2: had me checking the Sound Burger manual and realising the 45 adapter is meant to sit on top of LPs during play

Also: My SB plays about 2% fast. Noticeable on certain tracks. Anyone else have the same? Leaning towards returning. Random advice somewhere cautioned against trying to adjust it yourself, because it’s too fragile

Nice !

I also got mine and it’s busted on one corner :expressionless:
I’m not very happy.

Also mine doesn’t have the black on white side cover … Odd.
