Lately I’ve been enjoying the You’re Not From Around Here comp from Numero (and the sequel They Move in the Night). Looking forward to the third one in the trilogy.

I bought the AFX ambient work reissue vinyl few months ago because I love this record and I wanted to finally get into vinyls.

Now they’re shipping and I didn’t manage to buy a turn table

What would you guys recommend?
I’m not sure I much I should spend but I don’t need to most expensive, just something correct. I also have an amplifier, if that count.

I really enjoy my Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB. Obviously a SL1200 ripoff but does the job.

I upgraded from a cheaper AT to the Fluance RT81 Turntable with AT95E Cartridge, Belt Drive, Built-in Preamp, Adjustable Counterweight - Piano White earlier this year as I went down a vinyl rabbit hole and I’ve been very pleased with it. Probably best turntable I’ve owned and for the give or take $250 I paid for it, it’s a steal. Fluance decks are held in pretty high regard it seems.

That pic had me checking the Sound Burger manual and realising the 45 adapter is meant to sit on top of LPs during play

Also: My SB plays about 2% fast. Noticeable on certain tracks. Anyone else have the same? Leaning towards returning. Random advice somewhere cautioned against trying to adjust it yourself, because it’s too fragile

I haven’t noticed anything off on mine. Does the 7” adapter slow it down by 2% by chance?

The only issue I have with mine is that occasionally I get slightly warped vinyl that is a bit wonky because you don’t have any tone arm adjustments (I miss my Technics). Other than that I love mine.

I finally found a local second hand Technics that seems to be just the right tool for the job.
Direct drive, fully automatic with quartz lock, 150 bucks.

Now getting into buying vinyls. Nobody told me that it’s so expensive and many are hard to find

What’s your hunting strategy? Online store, eBay, vinyl shops?
I’m in Europe.

For out of print and harder to find stuff I use discogs. I also have my entire collection logged on discogs so I don’t buy duplicates and have records for insurance. I try to buy new directly from the artists and labels whenever possible. Bandcamp or the artist’s website. Ngl, amazon has a surprising amount of classics.

Didn’t even think about that
But most of what I want is out of print unfortunately.
I’ll go slow but try to get the few nice records I really enjoy.

So far I can tell that getting a TT led me to listen music properly again and rediscover lot of good tracks.

There is a video from Superbooth 2025 – Sonic State Video that goes into some of the nitty gritty.

This obviously is not for record production, besides one copy, but for that it seems a great option. You will need to add a considerable amount of gear to this and you need to get into some of the detail of doing a cutting, so this is not for everyone, but if you want to create your own “vinyl” for performance sort of things, here you go.

Discogs is great. Local Vinylshops, and for fun of course pawnshops and flea markets. Quite an experience finding a long searched rare and expensive gem for 1€.
