Can’t have a progressive breaks thread without talking about Nick Warren, who, if he didn’t invent the genre, was one of the main and most impressive exponents of its later, refined form around the mid noughties.
And so this gives me a chance to post my all-time favourite mix (up against some stiff competition), Warren’s Global Underground #28 in Shanghai. Granted I’m slightly biased; I was listening to this my first journey to Russia, where I later lived and eventually met my wife. It was the perfect soundtrack to the Trans-Siberian route I took from Moscow to her city.

I remember its name well. I ran a breaks & d&b night at The Pressure Point and later at the Jazz Rooms, for most of 2003. It was once a month on a Wednesday ‘cos we had no crowd and venues would only offer us low-turnout slots. Supercharged were always on when we were on so we stood no chance. Ya do it for the love, tho’ right…
Yeah I used to go to Pressure Point now and again. It seems like a lifetime ago. I still have a few acquaintances in Brighton but I don’t get back very often at all.
Supercharged at Audio was great. I always preferred these small venues where you could go right up to the booth and shake the DJ’s hand. My tinnitus wouldn’t thank me these days, I have to wear earplugs if I go anywhere too loud.

What kind of synths were they using for that year 2000 style? Airdrawndagger is like some other world album to me in terms of production. I have no idea how they made it sound so good. So many layers, so much going on yet such a clean mix.

Absolutely stellar full throttle live set from Hybrid recorded in Tokyo, crowd noise and all. One of my all time favourite mix CDs. Can be found on Spotify for a better quality sound. Glorious!!!
