[EDIT] Damn, found a thread down below where they were already mentioned Havent seen it by the Title of the thread, so SORRY for a double post. Delete it if you wish!
Yeah guys; KORG finally got their new Electribes out - probably available around November/December this year as mentioned at BPM 2014.
Again they come in two flavours:
The Synth Version (Electribe)
and the Sampler Version (Electribe Sampler)
They look quite promising; things like Scales for Chords in various Key Signatures, a hell of a lot of Effects, 16 Parts and a total of up to 24 Voices Polyphony - and even better: Full polyphony for every Part everytime Limited in what you can do with the Synth obviously but for a price of just around 300 Euros for each ⦠and they look just sexy
I will definitely get one (or both?) and see how they work with my loved Elektron Machines.
What about you? Will you get one too? Or do you think that the Electribe-Time is finally over?!
I donāt need one, since the Monomachine covers plenty of the same territory, but I can see myself picking up a used EMX-1 for a good price as well as the new Electribe synth at some point, but probably not unless I can get them for $250 or less. Iām in no rush.
Indeed the limitations they put into the new Tribes - especially in the Synth Part - are obviously far away from what our Elektron Machines can do. But consider the Price and consider what you get for this price. I think they still hit hard when they arrive. Because sometimes you may be more productive then you have less to work with.
And one thing i always loved about the Tribes: In addition to your automations on the Patterns you have Song Events that are an additional line of automations dedicated to the Song Mode which makes it extremely useful! Something i miss on our Elektron Devices for ages already ā¦
The Volca doesnāt sample,it is a sample playback device. The Electribe sampler does sample.
Seems like they took a lot of looks at Elektron stuff, the Electribes are going to have Ableton integration.
I will definitely be getting the sampler, the only thing missing for my sample wants is more than stereo out, I wish it had at least 4 outs, 4 stereo outs would have nailed it.
I like that it has some of what I liked about the Tempest sequencer, simpler interface than the Octatrack (I am sure) and the integration with Ableton will be somewhat handy.
But honestly i dont think that this integration will be too tight. It seems as if you can record your patterns directly into the Session View and play them back from there - basic MIDI stuff. But they did not mentioned if Parameter Changes on your Tribe will be recorded into appropriate Clip Envelopes and they also did not mentioned how the Parameters are handled at all. Are they just āpre labledā CCs? Or do you get real Host Automation as i would expect it from a proper integration?
Anyway - its there, its nice to have and (hopefully) nice to use - and its a statement if you always take that cheap price into consideration. Lets see how it will work in the end. I also contemplate with the Sampler Version right now ā¦
I would have thought the Ableton integration wonāt have anything to do with midi and will effectively be bouncing down your audio into an Ableton ready set.
That isnāt to say that the Electribes couldnāt function as midi controllers for Live but I read/understood the whole 'tribe/Live integration as being an audio thing. Iām sure itās that way with Gadget anyway.
Well. Its got nothing to do with midi so far. I have tried the korg gadget and it works superb to export like abletonfile. It shows up exactly like an abletonproject and you can start tweaking effects and stuff directly. Very nice and easy way to do it.
Probably they will add midistuff later on. The Korg gadget would certainly be even more good if you could export midi and change the sound to a vst synth.
The Electribe Synth has my attention simply because it has the King Korg VA synth engine built in at a much better price point in a nice portable package. I could see myself picking up one of these second hand at some point but I will not be jumping on it.
I think the new electribes are gonna be pretty hard to beat on price, 16 part and 24 voice polyphony with the king korg VA synth engine. I could see it being the perfect companion to my Rytm
