Almost always leads to security chasing me!!
It would influence my gear list on the back of my vinyl album. I mean id have to write the juicy gear stuff used not cheap knock offs or plugins.
I always wanted a gibson les paul standard, I thought they looked so cool, it was the essential rock guitar. When I was maybe 16 or 17 I got a lawsuit era Japanese les paul copy and it was the heaviest damn guitar I’d ever played, backbreaking heavy, could not believe it and thought “this must be because it’s a knock off”.
Some time later, I played a real les paul standard that some guy I knew had purchased and you know what?
IT WAS EVEN HEAVIER!
Never got a les paul standard, but I did learn an important lesson: The influence of iconic gear is nowhere as strong as the influence of lower back and shoulder pain.
You could absolutely put this on a T-shirt.
The Elektron sequencer is an icon on it’s own, and you can be sure it influences the way I made music. The intense PLock and CtrlALL use could be as recognizable as x0x kick for example.
Why I opted for an SG!!
I grew up listening to JMJ Oxygene and reading the back of its sleeve (about ARP, Mellotron, VCS3…). Back in the early 00’s, I was really into BoC and I thought the ARP Odyssey would be the perfect fit. So I bought a Black & Gold edition on ebay. Unfortunetely, I’ve been quite deceived by its raspy sound. Though I managed to make some nice seagul effects out of it.
I also bought no less than 3 SH-101’s. I really enjoyed the sound, but strangely, it never really fit into my musical production.
With a picture of a Bassman or JC120! I’d definitely wear this.
There’s a handful of pieces I have in part, due to their iconic status.
Mostly due to them just being core / standard sounds to work with. P-Bass, telecaster, to some extent my Prophet 6.
It might be pretty vanilla of me but these sounds work well with a lot of genres and moods.
I like chameleons more than anything, and especially chameleons that also have character.
So I guess I could say I don’t really play to the instruments mold because I choose a lot of instruments that are almost iconic for not having a specific mold.
