The improvised techno thread

I may have purchased a Quadrantid Swarm…

Can’t wait to have a play, but in the meantime is there any chance anyone who has one could measure it for me? The desktop unit, not the Eurorack. I’m going to need to figure out where it is going to live.

22cm x 14cm x 6cm (w/d/h) - The power socket is on the left hand side, my jack protrudes by approx 3cm.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed them. I’m sure you’ll love the Swarm when you get your hands on it, it’s unique and slightly mad as I’m sure you’re aware.

Yeah, the exact reason I went for it. I love my Digitakt and PreenFM2 setup, but I’ve noticed while trying to get proficient with improv that I am seriously lacking something tweakable and capable of a bit of spontaneous chaos. I can push things far out with the DT and Preen, but it has to be somewhat pre-planned. After a lot of research the Swarm just seemed to trump pretty much everything else for character. I was really inspired by hearing Surgeon use it in a few sets.

FWIW, you can get rhytmically crazy with the Swarm (and overcome the limitations of its own bare-bone sequencer) by sending pulses from an external sequencer into its clk and reset inputs.

Yes I was looking at that. I have a sync out of my Circuit Tracks which could work, and I can set that as a different BPM to my actual midi clock sent from my DT, which should allow for some funkiness. You can also use the LFO for that too right?

Just been having a session and recorded this. I love how gnarly the DFAM is at around 4m 30s/6m left, don’t skip to it…listen to it all eh with your headphones on and make sure there is some space to go mad and dance about … Some Swarm in there too.

Sorry about lowish quality, had to reduce bitrate 128kb/s so I could upload:

Quadrantid Swarm arrived, this was my first attempt at using it. Drums are shit as a result of it taking all my attention, but it bubbles away beautifully.

I listened to all of the STOOR Stay Home Soundsystem episodes (multiple times;) and I’m going to say this is my favourite of the whole lot. Been listening to this one again throughout the last weeks. I think it’s amazing. So many questions about how sounds are done lol.

Yeah good idea - I watched them all back then but haven’t watched any episode back. Let’s hope they get deep into their setup in this episode
