The Guitar Thread

So I just got one of these:

If you run a modeler (for guitar or bass), I can’t recommend it enough. Pretty much plug and play, with just enough tone shaping to accommodate various rooms/use cases/etc.

And only $450 US!

Another forum I visit is TGP, which is very guitar oriented. Once in a while somebody starts a playalong/jam track thread. I was an Eric Johnson fan when I first got into university. This was before I discovered My Bloody Valentine, and other dreampop/shoegaze favorites. I guess nostalgia compelled me to record something for that thread, even though I don’t really do the rock lead guitar thing.

oh yeah I need to take that sticker off. At least I inserted one thing you can do on a Jazzmaster, but not on a Strat. Drive pedal was Fryette SAS, and distortion was Industrialectric RM-1n

Got the OTO BAM today, again.
On mindless impulse grabbed the MXR Echoplex Delay too.
Always been a Carbon Copy devotee, for guitar and Bass, but this has blown it away.
The Age mode is outstanding. Can go full wet mode, but otherwise it has a completely separate parallel analog dry path to the digital effect.
Put an overdrive after it and things got Tantric.

edit: tried it out with Bass today. Not as impressed, best used on a parallel channel. Though, used with Age at 50% and low Volume, Sustain at 3 o’clock, Delay at 9 o’clock, it’s a subtle dirty chorus that lends itself nicely to my rendition of NewOrders Ceremony.

I’d like to add mics on my Ibanez AF71
I’m looking for advices to buy Ibanez AF75 mic type. Humbuckers? I read about Gibson 57 classic…

Jazz on the neck, eventually more gain for the bridge. I thought about buying an AF75 G BKF, but esthetically I think I’d prefer AF71 modified, keeping it’s floating mic. 3 positions switch…

Project :

AF75 G BKF

Fine piece of Mustang action…

I ended up buying a Jazzmaster instead, but I do like that song and appreciate learning that Mustang was the guitar of choice

Thought about posting this on the Deals thread but I figured maybe interest might be too limited.

This course is on sale for $10 off. Teaches modes through real music pieces

What’s the story with the “two types of tape emulation” they mention in the product press release? Are they using DSP now?
Also wondering, what’s with them all being called “standard edition”… is there going to be something else coming… say, with an expression jack?

Here’s the lowdown on Standard vs Limited versions of Spaceman pedals. I generally prefer the Limited edition versions, but in all reality, the Standards pretty much sound exactly the same, and are still a kick ass build quality.

Hey guitar fiends, I’m a beginner on the hunt for a used Telecaster and could use guidance. If this isn’t the right place to ask, let me know!

What would you pay for this set-up: 2005 MIM Tele with Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack neck pickup and Little 59 bridge pickup and locking tuners.

If anyone has tips for finding a solid beginner Tele I’d be glad to hear them.

Check out g&l, not as good resale as fender (can be a plus if buying used!) but great guitars.

Last night I was spending some time trying to remember all the things I used to know about the OT and surprisingly, I haven’t forgotten as much as I thought. So I plugged the Jaguar into Zoia for a decent cab sim and sampled my guitar while the OT was playing, sliced it up, sequenced the slices, made some scenes, controlled slice numbers with LFOs, parameter locked some effects, and messed around with conditional trigs. And it all worked! A week or so ago I couldn’t remember how to do anything! The only thing I still haven’t tried that I really want to do (although I’m a little intimidated because I can’t wrap my head around it) is mangling samples while they’re being recorded into the buffer over and over every pattern length. I’ve seen people mention it but I don’t know how to set it up. My guess is you set slices on recorder buffer, then set a recorder trig, and a trig to play the sample. Does that sound right? Here’s my guitar session pic from last night out in the den.

Ah, SMC and thru-hole. Nice way to offer same gear/sound at a better price.
No debate here.

What I usually do it simply place rec trigs each 2 steps, same for flex trigs. Timestretch off, no pitch up.

Can you message me with just a little more detail? I swear, I am so close to getting this to work and I know you know what you’re doing.

I’m tempted by this D’Angelico Excel Mini DC. I have a Deluxe SS that I’m happy with so I’m confident in this brand and its Korean-made guitars. The Deluxe SS has a stairstep tailpiece as opposed to a stop bar.

The discount is because of the finish cracks, for which there are closeup photos.

I’ve heard D’Angelico and Reverend guitars are manufactured in the same factory. I own an old Reverend that I love, and the newer ones I’ve played have been even better.

That guitar is pretty neat, I dig 339s and I like the style. I wouldn’t worry about the finish either. Do you feel like it’s redundant if you already own a Semi-hollow HH D’Angelico?

No, because my SS has a stairstep tailpiece while the Mini DC has a stopbar tailpiece.

The stairstep tailpiece contributes different overtones and sympathetic resonances. Also, the Deluxe SS/EX-SS guitars that have the stairstep are closer to fully hollow - you can look into one f-hole and see out the other f-hole. There’s a chunk of center block that would have been there if the tailpece was a stopbar but is missing in this case. So there’s a kind of woody character that’s different than the more 335-looking guitars.

I’m guessing the Mini DC will have more sustain and be able to deliver more Tele-like tones when the coils are split.

My first electric guitar that was purchased, after my then-bandmate convinced me to switch from bass to 2nd guitar, was a Reverend. That’s also a good brand.

I’ve had bad wrist pain while playing the guitar within the last year and have gotten close to just getting rid of a couple. Being able to be creative with samplers / drum machines and synths really helped keep my spirits up during this. I bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe III in honey burst with split coil etc in 2015 as a graduation present, but it hurts me to play it… love the guitar but for some reason playing it hurts more than my Telecaster (Mexican Tele special ed ash)

I’ve come close to listing it on Reverb and grabbing more Elektron gear, but haven’t yet.
