I had a EHX synth9 pedal for a bit and it was pretty cool!

Love to hear a snippet of what your doing, sounds like a lot of fun!

Solidgoldfx surf rider IV is my fav spring reverb pedal. It’s $209. MXR M300 has a spring and some other beautiful verbs in it. It’s $235. You said cheap but didn’t mention a range. There are some waaaay cheaper ones. I have an absolute unhealthy amount of spring reverbs. I could list possibly 35-37 more :face_holding_back_tears::neutral_face:. Hope this helps. Don’t sleep on a nux reverb/delay. It’s big though. Anyhoo sorry for the novel. Hope this helps.

Synth pedal shootout:

Quimera is probably your best bet:

  1. Can load user samples
  2. Does polyphonic guitar audio to MIDI conversion - no special pickup required

I like his idea of combining POG3 for the attack portion - much less latency compared to Quimera or Boss pedals - and Quimera/Boss for the decay, sustain, release portions of synth sounds. Obviously over the top in terms of expenditure but fun idea nonetheless.

Our band’s music doesn’t require synth sounds at the moment, so I don’t mind leaving my synths/keyboards at home when I go to band practice. If we do head in that direction. I may look further at incorporating POG3 or Quimera.

Thanks for the response! I picked up the amp for $180, so I’d like to keep it cheaper than that, perf <$100  there’s a M300 on local marketplace for a decent deal so I’ll consider that. Also, a local Danelectro Spring King I’ve been eyeing! :crown:

I’ve been using my Strymon Volante, which sounds freaking sweet but I typically reserve that for my keyboard rig. And I just got my EHX grand canyon back from a friend, so I’m going to keep trying out what I currently have before buying anything else

I feel you on the reverb love! More is better

I think it might already be my favorite guitar in my little collection.

Barrie is my favorite guitarist I think.

He really should play a … Barrietone Guitar XD

To be serious, though, I liked that he said that you need to have Trust to leave (sonic) Space and play less. That’s something that resonates very deeply with me. It all comes back down to Fear-based decision making (basically the classic Prisoner’s Dilemma) only applied to your own Playing.

Oh, yeah and he mentioned the Schaller Fuzz. A Friend of mine has one of those, and man, that is the absolute best Pedal I’ve ever heard.

Super ego is very interesting! the Microcosm was cool but i would not take that pedal out in the real world, it was made about as cheaply as possible, and those LEDs are unholy!

I might put my Infinite Jets back on my pedalboard.

I brought it once to rehearsal with my previous band. While I loved it with guitar, it felt like a constant battle with my electric violin, and my role in that band was electric violin player.

I found the Blur sounds more useful than the Synth sounds in general. The Synth sounds are both pitched an octave down, which put my violin in conflict with the guitarist in the old band, and will clash with the bassist in the new band. Glitch sounds are fun for improvised breaks and such. I preferred how the Blur swelled more than the Swell voices lol.

It’s an oddball with some annoyances like the calibration process, but I still like its sounds.

I’ve really been falling in love with the guitar again lately. I spent the last five or so years trying to learn how to write and think in synth/drum machine/sampler brain. Kind of left the guitar by the wayside for a bit. But, I bought one of those new Big Muff 2s and it’s gotten me loving playing. It probably helps that I’ve found a bunch of new shoegaze adjacent bands that have given me hope in the state of rock music again. I used to joke that the Garden State soundtrack killed rock. Well, the zoomers seem to be resurrecting it.

I use mosky 10-iso from aliexpress. Cost 45e and is isolated. Don’t know how long it will last, but works great.

Been getting back to guitar lately. Really digging my squier sonic mustang ss! So thin neck and the 24" scale makes playing chords much easier. Sounds great and loud unplugged too, bit dark and noisy plugged in though. Maybe I would get the HH knowing this but overall very happy.
Ive been gassing for HILS hn3 as I like having the ability to play like with a classical (it is gorgeous in green too!), but the mustang is enough for now. Would love to get a real Strandberg as I love the idea of their ergo necks but unfortunately they are out of my budget.

I had a neighbor that played that soundtrack every single day for years. Ugh.

These seem like a very good bang for the buck at least for ppl in EU. Modern C neck (could be thinner though), tons of tones with pups in series or something like that (10 tones), good quality parts for HB, even the pups sound good to my ears. I do miss my strat and not being completely happy with the short scale mustang for shredding, this intrigues me. Probably time to start saving for one. Love also how they look (I think they released 41 varieties of the Fusion IV series). I’m a sucker for green instruments.

Demo:

I would not say no to this one either which is almost 1/3 of the price:

Amazing how they can offer so good quality guitars nowadays for cheap. I paid 160e for my Sonic Mustang, which plays very well too!

Session guitarist Tim Pierce and singer/songwriter Richard Page playing Pipe Dream (Rob Page) guitars. The A6 electro-acoustic baritone sounds pretty nice to me. Video is cued up to that bit.

Pipe Dream also offers the Chopped line of hybrid guitar/baritone/bass instruments

There was a Sqire one a few years ago. Looked like they made a run of the VI as a hardtail. Haven’t seen it in the shops for a while, but it’s out there if you’re looking for something similar.

That’s surprisingly difficult criteria, especially if you want actual springs.
I know danelectro has a new smaller version of the spring king but i have no idea if its ant good. The original one is cool but had an annoying pre delay baked in.
My favorite is the surfybear compact but its neither cheap nor small. Absolutely amazing pedal though.
For digital I’ve tried tons and while i liked quite a few in their own right none really sounded or behaved like a real mechanical spring reverb except the source audio true spring. Its standard pedal sized and wasn’t too painful used. I would imagine now that they came out with the Pathways (a suped up version) you could probably find the true spring at good used prices.
Also, i love the peavey classic series! I’ve never played the 20 but i have the 50 (212) and have played the 30 a fair bit. I really want the 115 version of the delta blues from that line. Peavey is sorely underrated.

High end power supplies are expensive in every industry but you might not need high end. Its always nice but as long as it cleanly delivers what your pedals need and is reliable its good enough. I have a few different versions of the truetone 1spot bricks (cs12, cs7, and cs6) and I’ve been more than happy with them. I bought them all used and they were pretty cheap. I also have an old first run dunlop dc brick that has been going strong for nearly 20 years, they’re cheap and reliable but extremely basic (non isolated outputs, low total current, limited voltage options). Even the 1spot daisy chain adapter is awesome depending on your pedals’ power requirements.
