The Guitar Thread

Cool, hybrid style. I’m not surprised the stock strings are ass. I mean, there’s no reason for a specialty instrument to come with bad strings, especially at that price point, but I’m still not surprised that its the case.

Either they expect you to replace the strings as soon as you set it up anyway, or they’re simply many months old and have been transported thousands of miles through different climates and given up the ghost.

I don’t have a Godin MultiVoice/MultiAC/ACS but I have a Parker Nitefly with a Roland GK3 pickup installed. The tech onboard the Godins may not be exactly the same as the GK3 but the experience will probably be similar. If you look closely at the Godins you will see that they don’t have MIDI out, they have 13-pin out instead. They are intended to be used with a Boss/Roland device that has a 13-pin input. Back when I bought the VG-99 some 13-pin devices did guitar-MIDI conversion and some didn’t. Seems like today’s options (SY-1000, GR-55, VG-800, GM-800) will all do it - Google them though to make sure if you get serious about buying.

i used the Nitefly with Roland VG-99 to play bass and synth parts at the same time with a band. That setup was fine for those roles. There was no bassist or keyboard player in the band.

Jam Origin Midi Guitar 3 is shocklingly good at converting guitar audio into MIDI if you run it on a decently powered computer. I have a Macbook Pro M1. MG3 works best with bridge humbucker pickups - I don’t know why - it just does. I learned how to use it by watching LofiLeif’s videos. He inspired me to get a TEControl BBC2 to make trumpet, horn, etc. parts sound like wind instruments instead of sounds just triggered by picking on strings. You still have to trigger the sound by playing a string but the BBC2 lets you control amp envelopes and stuff with your breath which is a game changer

More recent vid by him. Can’t think of a bigger MIDI guitar nerd than this guy :+1:

If you just want to add a synth sound to your guitar and you don’t actually need MIDI out, one of the synth pedals by EHX, Meris, or Boss might be enough to satisfy your curiosity.

Quimera pedal is the closest thing to Jam Origin MG3 in a pedal. It has a MIDI out. No hex pickup required. It has a subtractive synth like the Boss and Meris synth pedals, as well as wavetable but its biggest advantage besides MIDI out is sample playback, with support for user samples.

Whether any of this stuff will be a fit for you depends on your expectations and what you intend to use it for. Seems like most satisfied users are playing with it in a band where the music requires keyboard parts but there’s no keyboard player. The majority of my guitar synth use has been in a band context. When I’m recording my own stuff, I can just record keyboard tracks by playing Osmose, Push 3, or keyboard instead of guitar synth.

(Just released, and on sale) This plugin - and also set of plugins if you want inidividual pedals - sounds amazing. Just had a play with the demo it sounds effortlessly good: MixWave: Benson Monarch Collection

Does edge of breakup and filthy sounds equally well. One of the better plugins I’ve used, well worth the price of entry.

Edit: Couldn’t resist, bought it after demo’ing for 20 minutes.

Same, damn I gotta throw that album on now.

a friend lent me a dominic kench 52 tele today that is actually rather amazingly good
i have had or played or borrowed or bought or sold hundreds, if not thousands of guitars since i started playing in 1989 and this tele is up there with og 50s stuff i have played and master builders etc i will probably get bored of it and give it back eventually as is the way, and not having a band anymore or gigs to play makes it sort of redundant but its still one of the best guitars i have ever had my hands on

Hybrid¿ string on the fender VI actually sounds amazing :heart_eyes_cat:
There’s always something off about the timbre between the D and G strings on the VI either if it’s all flats or rounds, but the mix of rounds and flats just works.

All of a sudden a bunch of videos about Fender and lawsuits are showing up on the watch next section of Youtube.

Did Fender shit the bed or something? Seems like Fender is trying to sue companies based on guitars shaped roughly like strats?!

I think I found the next baritone to GAS for, even though I don’t play that style of music. I prefer this color to the 2026 model’s silver.

Yes, sent out a ton of cease and desists overseas regarding the strat shape.

Yes they did shit the bed.

I’m a fender fanboy, the last two guitar and bass I picked up are great! Not sure if them going to shit was a quality thing!

I posted this one over in the Behringer Vocoder thread, but it’s such a fun video I thought I’d post it here. It’s actually from a bass lesson channel, but sort of like a Rhythm Roulette for incredibly talented session musicians. Fun to see such talented musicians come up with stuff on the spot and it helps that it’s such a great tune. Just an inspiring video for making you want to be a better musician. Also, that vocoder sounds great.
