Each episode is a forensic exploration of an episode the uk pop culture behemoth Top of the Pops - spanning late 60s up to about the mid naughties.
Obviously it touches on the music, but always expands out to discuss socio-political climate of the times.
Very Brit-centric. Very left-leaning. Lots of swearing. Often crude and silly, but by turns very clever and insightful.
Al the host will tell you himself it took a while to find its feet, and thinks the first half dozen episodes were a bit ropey, but once it hit its strides it really became special.
It’s probably not very immediate, but rewarding to anyone who sticks with it.
