You’re a lifesaver, that works! On Bitwig 5, CMD+SHIFT and then drag and drop worked.
Not very impressed with Bitwig support, I emailed them about it and they just replied and said “this isn’t possible” but it clearly is!

Oof. That’s a not a great look for their support. But also, I feel really bad for them. Bitwig is an incredibly complex product (I use it daily and know I touch maybe 10% of it) that’s still adding new batches of features two or three times a year.
As a customer, I love it! As support, I don’t know how I’d keep up with that even were it my full time job.
Yeah I’m not trying to be unkind. I’m a software dev by trade and it’s hard to keep up with every detail.
I’ve already replied and clarified that it works for them, hopefully it’ll help for next time!
…that would be news to me…afaik, all their code is in house production only…
but there might be some exceptions…
it was obvious, they could not sublicense the “warp” from ableton, since bitwigs birthmoment happened because of a split at the dev board right there in first place…
I was mistaken it’s Zplane. They license the tech from Zplane.
…u never know it all…learning, in best case, is a life long experience…and happens every day…
Kind of OT, but for clarification: Ableton did not patent any audio stretching algoritms, for their “Complex” modes they license “elastique Pro” from the company zplane, who has patented it. For the other modes (like beats) they use their own algorithms but these are not patented because they use “prior art” like granular synthesis and transient slicing. Ableton does have patents, but these are in the domain of workflow and hard/software integration (like Push)
Latest Polarity vid about generating random percussive sounds with the Grid. I love this stuff and even this specific application isn’t useful to you, the principles of controlled randomisation can be applied elsewhere.
Even outside of the grid, the drum options native to Bitwig are pretty good in my use case. I slept on the 5.3 drum additions until recently. Dunno why but 6.0 more than any update for whatever reason opened my eyes to utilizing more of the factory content over third-party solutions.
Btw why does he look like younger Ephemeral Rift
Sometimes I’m too focused on the grid, I’ve never really played with the freq split and the harmonic split devices. And that was a mistake because I didn’t know how much potential they have for making weird physical noises, it feels like they are making physical modeling without even trying.
Phase 4 running into the freq split and the harmonic split devices, with some bitwig effects :
…happy easter egg everyone…
polarity spending good vibes, while we keep searchin’…
…anothe relentless approach for sonic eternity…
really wonder, how he finds all that time to actually do so…
I don’t want to speak on his behalf but I think he might be doing the Youtube thing full-time. I say that because I can recall watching back one of his live streams or something and him thanking all his viewers/subscribers etc for helping him be able to do it.
Also definitely saw people making donations on live streams while he makes full tracks. If it’s not stating the obvious, I guess if you can reach a certain point with a combination of Youtube ad money, Patreon and other stuff then you can make a living. I’m sometimes curious about this stuff (and it’s all public info, I’m not releasing any secrets) so when I look at his Patreon account it says he has around 500 paid subscribers. That’s between $1.50 and $18.50 per month depending on what tier you pay for, so it starts to add up at some point.
Anyway bit of a tangent. I really like the guy, he has deep Bitwig knowledge and always to trying to genuinely make music or teach something and he’s not at all pushy or trying to sell anything.
His videos are always very deep, lots of side quests in his videos, i like that.
I had a lot of fun recreating the Intellijel Metropolis sequencer in the grid.
The patch is relatively simple but it was in fact quite challenging to recreate the stages :
Here’s three instances of this sequencer running three sounds, Bitwig devices only :
I just saw on the KVR boards that BWS 6.0.4 (prerelease) is highly unstable on apple silicon macs. Stay safe out there, macsters.
Obviously that’s the pre release but I was about to write in here to ask if anyone is having issues on silicon macs with the latest update? I’m currently demo’ing bitwig with a view to switching over to it. I’m on a mac m1 max running sequioa and on one project in particular I’m having constant audio and timing glitches even with the buffer maxed out. I’ve almost never had to do this with logic, reaper or renoise. There is a lot of VST instruments playing however like I said, I almost never hit these issues with any other software, except the latest version of Renoise crashing occasionally.
Reading my tea leaves it looks to me like Bitwig might be in some kind of trouble as an organization. Note the following:
The unusually (and unexplainedly) protracted period of the BWS 6 beta.
The fact that they’ve ditched their prior manual (they’ve stated that they’re reworking the manual from the ground up for ver 6) but don’t seem to be anywhere near having a draft copy available for users now weeks past launch of 6.0 .
The bizarre radio silence that U-He indicates from Bitwig re: issues with Zebra 3’s CLAP incarnation, especially given that U-He boldy jumped on the CLAP train with Bitwig right off the bat. The Zebra 3 launch page calls Bitwig out for their CLAP implementation issues, fer cripes sake.
Bitwig is in many ways exceptional, valuable, and unique software. I hope they prove my concerns unfounded.
Did some key technical people leave the company recently maybe?
