Yup, like in Ableton I’l have my Apollo and 404 and ES-9 set up as an aggregate at system level then select that as my sound card. Gets pretty confusing keeping track when you’re up to 20+ each of inputs and outputs.
One hack that I used to use is that VCV Rack lets you address sound cards individually so I can just set my Apollo/404 as the aggregate and bring in the ES-9 that way. The updated approach in Bitwig is so much nicer, just go to the device in the dropdown and there it is. Stuff like this and how it handles latency adjustments are major reasons why it still has the crown for me as the DAW with best hardware integration.
It looks like Connect is finally out. Available for the direct order from site. Partners shops are also mentioned, but, for example, nothing on Thomann yet.
I’ve reached that time of year where I’m praying to the Bitwig gods that I squeeze through into the next major release - my upgrade plan runs out on May 11th. We’re on 5.3.8 so 5.4 can’t be too far off (he optimistically says to himself).
I’m really curious about the changes to the arranger and piano roll they mention on the website. I feel like Bitwig might genuinely bring something new to the table and not just copy some scale features or whatever from other DAWs.
Release 5.3 happened just now in February, I don’t think there will be any major bump (to 5.4 or 6) so early. At maximum it could happen during Superbooth (8-10th May) but given their release cycles in the past it would be very optimistic.
Sorry to be that guy, but I think May / Superbooth will be all about Connect 4/12, which will also give them some more time to work on these “fundamental workflow improvements to how you work on the Arranger and in the Piano Roll”
Also, Bitwig was running a big -50% sale last May (I’m guessing that’s when you bought yours?) and I’m pretty sure they’d like to see the Upgrade Plan money from these people, rather than “give” them the 6.0 for “free”
On the other hand, May wouldn’t look out of place, although I’m “betting” July
5.3 beta was announced in Nov 24, though. That’s the date that counts for updates now - as long as beta starts when your license is valid, you’re eligible for the final release.
Used this patch to create at least 5 mini-projects with different settings, lots of fun.
Imho East-Cost in Grid can sound much more interesting than West-Coast.
One little thing BW Grid misses here - ability to pack modules in a macro/preset (to later simply copy/paste such ‘complex oscillator’).
Using Bitwig’s API, and providing an extension and a controller app is not a collaboration.
It’s good to see they built something specific for Bitwig, though.
