How does that new master rec function works? Can i now record one stereo audio track from master channel when i jam live?

Edit: the proplem for me was that when i stop the sequence then of course also master recording stops and live jam hits the wall with out smooth ending. So i use audacity to record the master output. It would be nice to use only bitwig for that.

Yes you can record the master even when the sequence doesn’t play

Beautiful sound examples. :metal:

I’m always amazed at how such small details can change a whole workflow when you want to do live sound design or something similar.

And I find it funny that such an ancient way of recording audio is only now finding its way into a DAW. Or am I wrong in thinking that people have always made music this way? Start the tape and off you go.

Small side note, if you use Overbridge as a standalone app you also have a recorder that can record independently of the sequencer or sync. And it’s multichannel.

Hey all. Requesting help for an enthusiastic Bitwig noob. Playing around with Stepwise on a drum machine and loving it. Trying to record the notes but can’t seem to make that happen. Stepwise starts playing through the preroll (which I also don’t fancy) and keeps producing sound but I can’t seem to record any of it in the clips or the arranger. What obvious thing am I missing? Many thanks in advance.

This sounds unintended to me. Let’s report it to BW.

Yea it seems odd. But I’m new to Bitwig so not sure if I’m missing something. Curious if anyone else has experienced it. Will definitely report if the consensus is a bug.

It’s up to them to decide and I agree with your first take. I already sent a message. Sorry I can’t help with the midi issue. You can probably capture the same midi on another instrument channel.

I’ve gotta say, this beta seems to have cured my GAS for the DNII with these very nice drums, but now I’m GASing over some controllers from intech : Intech Studio - Shop

The modularity they provide seems like a very good companion to the grid, and the EN16+BU16 combo seem so much better than the launchpad+midi fighter twister combo that I use.

Does anyone here use these controllers with Bitwig ?

You have to record the midi out from Stepwise to another track and set this track input to Stepwise.

First time I see these controllers but won’t it be hard to get it to actually match up once you build a few grid batches? I’m just thinking that the modularity probably sacrifices something that a more comprehensive or even simple controller can do. It would be a cool teaching tool though.

Yeah you might be right but I was thinking about a specific grid patch that I made that mimics the Elektron sequencer with plocks and all.

I can pretty much make the launchpad+midi fighter twister combo to behave like the Elektron sequencer, like select the parameters I want to plock from the controllers, chose the steps I want to plock also directly from the controllers, applys lfos to some steps, etc, everything from the controllers without having to touch the computer, but there are some elements I can’t do and I think these intech controllers might be the thing I was looking for. We’ll see !

Pretty exciting stuff. It would be cool to see it up and running.

hi,

have the en16 and the one with faders, wanted to use it with vcv rack, but the controller crashed the program because a setting related to keyboard access, don’t remember exactly, was annoyed, I don’t want a midi controller to mess with keyboard settings. and I don’t want to spend to much time to figure out settings. when I found the right setting it worked perfectly. with ableton too. I don’t use them often, the magnetic mechanism is fragile, if you lift it from the table it easly breaks apart, maybe I was too hectic. I like the concept but in the end it’s collecting dust.

once I tried to connect it to the usb of push 3 but it took much energy, maybe I made something wrong, ignored some settings…

Would you mind describing how or sharing the patch?

reminder theres a few things on patchstorage… not much though… only 12.
its good for zoia …

I might share it when it will be finished. For now, I want to see if I can simplify it with the new step access module. You can also do a lot with stepwise in this regard. It’ll still be clunky though

There’s much more here :

You need set the midi input of the track to stepwise, in the left side tab a bit down

I normally have the EN16 sitting in front of me when I have any DAW open, I set it up with the Driven by Moss generic flexi script so I can adjust 8 parameters and page through devices and the parameter pages without touching the mouse / keyboard and in general it’s worked very well.

But it has started glitching out on me since I went on the 5.3 beta, I’m not sure is this because the script needs to be updated or an issue with the controller. Might have to try remapping it which is a bit of hassle but not too difficult, takes a bit of time at the start but after that it was working reliably until the update.

I also use the sliders and pots one but more so with Ableton / Push - I have some custom sets and the mapping has worked fine both in the DAW and standalone mode.

I made a clunky, messy and not talented clone of Fors’ Dyad in the grid. It made me realize how really good the original one is.
But mine is still fun though

Perhaps consider one of the Surface laptops with Snapdragon X? Bitwig 5.3 supports that natively, and I always loved the Surface lineup, i.e. they’re like Macbook Pros of Windows

That sounds and looks great, I really love the Surface line of Ultrabooks, but maybe not brave enough to do that jump with the beta version

But is it correct that a sGPU is not really necessary for smooth Bitwig operation?
