Happy new year yall… just released this project. It’s my 16th release of 2024 and imo one of my more solid projects ever (officially over 2 decades deep at this point, so that’s out of… well, a lot)
4 songs followed by their instrumentals. All music, lyrics and mixing by me. I realize this is a lot of self-promotion but no one else is going to do it for me. I release most of my music into the void these days and everything is available for free (name your price, no minimum).
Peace to all the creators on this thread, I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. Let’s get it 2025!
Meager little new years gift for the MPC users in the hip hop community, figure that only the heads will care about this one so this is probably the best place to share it. If you aren’t aware (I wasn’t) you can add a control layer to the sp1200 vintage effect plug-in so that it’s not just a fixed setting. You can’t do this with the mpc60 or mpc3000 plug-ins, only the SP type ring aliasing effect.
Video that walks you through it.
Dude has a ton of great hardware sampler “vs” style comparisons on his channel so if you ever wanted to know how much a sampletrak or an sp-202 actually sounds like an sp1200 or an mpc60 etc. then check him out.
Here’s a skit based on a certain movie that everyone will know, made with samples from the depths of the HD, and a little bit of YouTube. I think the bass is a little loud but I like massive bass anyway
Something I’ve been messing around with. I tried to work this out on the 404 but I got annoyed. This time I did it in FL Studio. I made all the samples. I still need to figure out something for the chorus.
homies. it’s been awhile. hope you’re well. i’ve been busy, just turned 50 the other day, and am super frustrated with the state of US government and the world.
but my wife got me a classic for my birthday, so there’s a little ray of sunshine on the day.
i hope everyone in this community is doing as well as you can. lift each other up. find community and do something for a neighbor.
This was a pretty dope panel just on some giving legends their flowers and what not. Some cool history and insight into some classic records & machines as well.
Also if anyone has Hulu, the new “Sly Lives” documentary produced by Questlove is really well done.
On a similar note (I’m just a fan, not a Questlove secret agent/shill, I promise), I’m reading his book “Hip Hop is History” and it’s great imo. Not the most comprehensive look at the genre by any means but I’ve been a Roots fan for almost 30 years now and have always appreciated Questlove’s breaking of the fourth wall so to speak. Long before it became the norm to share everything (mostly in the hopes of promotion & monetization), he was giving a lot of looks behind the curtain which was great for curious people like me who had no idea what went into making music or pursuing a career in it. His book does a good job telling the story of hip hop as well as his place in it. Highly recommend though I’m only halfway thru… I’ll only report back if it ends up really going off the rails lol.
Happy to come across this thread. I don’t know if you consider this “hip-hop” (to me it’s “electronic”). I made two tracks last year imagining Rick Ross on the vocals
Obviously the beat is not the typical 4/4 that I am used to producing in pretty much all my other tracks. Maybe that’s why it’s slightly hiphop? I don’t really focus on this type of music but it was fun to do something different. It came with its own challenges: what do I do with the beat to make it more interesting, how do you do transitions, how many melodies, layers or themes are too much, how do you mix, master etc… All of them were fun to think about. Also it gave my ears some break too by not dealing with my routine.
This is the simplest idea I had and I like the next one better. I put this out there last week and probably self-release the other later this month.
I think finesse may well be my all time favourite producer, I’m sure they’re not but all his output sounds effortless in the best way, the awakening is in heavy rotation on my playlist always…
