I had one on order straight away but something pulled me back after my desk space was filling up fast with Behringer gear. I wanted a Poly Kobol as well which didn’t help. Yes the architecture differs from the Model D but i think one desktop mono is enough?
Each to their own in terms of what’s enough…I think you’d possibly have heart failure if you saw the pile of monos I’ve got!
The concept of ‘enough’ is something that passed me by!
In all seriousness if you do get a chance to try the Kobol I’d recommend giving it a whirl. It’s one of those more tha the sum of its parts synths imo
I have 2 spaces in my 3 tier Behringer rack crying out. Wish they were all the same HP though.
Yeah that can be a pain if you’re using eurorack. I bought the rack ears for my mono’s as I already had a few 19” rack cases and frames kicking about.
Sound quality is such a subjective thing so take this with a pinch of salt but for me the Kobol sounds every bit as ‘good’ as my Blue Marvin albeit a different flavour.
The poly cat should definitely be a Clowder
Had to Google that one. You live and you learn!
I’d deffo take a PolyCat (or clowder) tho!
Behringer on Facebook is reporting their progress with their “Wave” synth, saying they made six revisions, and continue beta testing, and while they are nearing manufacture, they still need more time to complete the project and start manufacture.
The Facebook product progress updates have been calm since this last Wave update that they posted on December 13th. Wondering if they are saving stuff up for their NAMM showing. Don’t know. We’ll see, NAMM is in a little over a week.
On the other hand, It’s probably nothing.
Doesn’t Behringer not usually go to NAMM? Maybe they would go for media attention, but I thought the official purpose of NAMM is for music retailers to check out what manufacturs have to offer to decide what to order for the year. But since Behringer only sells through super-partners that would be irrelelevent. Do they sell other non-Behringer MusicTribe brands like TC Electronic in retail stores?
All very good points. Behringer did not do shows in general, but like a year or so back they said something about maybe they would, or they were thinking about it or something.
All the shows have slightly different audiences and missions. NAMM certainly functions as you describe. But I think it has multiple functions, and the general public can attend, as well as press. It has a lot of instruments and commercial products, but there is definitely a place for electronic music products there too.
You may have noticed that Behringer has added at least one Super Partner in the US. I also think other parts of Music Tribe don’t sell through the Super Partner arrangement. So there is plenty for them to talk to retailers about.
Plus all this is open to change especially with Uli transitioning out of the Behringer leadership role. A show might be a good place to try out, and give some experience to some possible replacements.
I wonder about how Behringer / Music Tribe will change in the next few years as it matures ? I still think the Gear-In-Progress thread will remain active though.
I have no idea really if there will be anything to post in this thread, as a result of NAMM. Just hoping so.
Also it just occurs to me that Behringer is probably ready to OEM their poly-aftertouch keybed. They made it to be a cinch to drop into any keyboard design, it’s got it’s own processor so it’s a four wire interface. It might even be high speed MIDI.
They can add that to the Cool Audio chips which they will OEM to anyone. And ithis keybed will be super inexpensive, yet good quality.
So there is another reason for them to be at trade shows.
It could get ugly if Behringer attend a trade show. Im sure in a civilized world they would have no problem, But the world isnt.
To be complete, their listing at NAMM, is for three divisions, Midas, Aston Microphone, and Turbosound, ( see this post ) so potentially three very commercial divisions. They of course can show pretty much what they want, and can also have private showings, and can talk to anyone, so it is not a stretch really to think GIP announcements may occur.
I’m patiently waiting for their VCS3 clone.
I really like the aural nuances of the original one; Hope to listen a proper demo soon!
On FB today Behringer shows the faceplate, without the electronics for the JT-16. They say it’s a prototype, that is getting ready for assembly, so mid way in development.
I think we’ll see more pictures of stuff for at least the coming week.
Sheesh! hope that is a 19in rack… I think? Buttons and sliders could be small.l
Eh looking closer it can’t be rack mounted since the i/o is perpendicular to the face plate.
If you align the grills, the logo, the lcd bay and the button slots, they are the same as the UB, suggesting it is an identical width chassis to that, fwiw
Yeah this is def the top half of a keyboard. I know they were messing around with a ub-xa module, wonder if they will ever make one (sorry if they released it already and I missed it!)
Though it has not been announced to my knowledge the JT-16 will have the same poly-aftertouch keybed as in the UB-Xa.
Yeah this is the top half of a keyboard synth. In other photos with it they show the faceplate for the controls to the left of the keybed, and a picture of the chassis box that the keybed sits in.
Would definitely expect other arrangements for these all, It’s just a question of when.
