The q link position being horizontal instead of the vertical default position is one of the biggest bone headed decision Akai has made and stuck with.
This is such an individual thing! Even if itâs a yes for me, it might be a no for you.
FWIW, in my use cases, this one box gives me way more sonic possibilities than all of the modern Elektrons combined.
To me, the macros are one of the best things about the modern MPC/Force. Itâs well worth it to take the time to set up macro track for your external devices & save them as a track file & or, as a project template. You can also use clips to create & store different variations of automation-clips & pick the best one. You can use MIDI Send to send the ACs to another track if you want to separate the note data & automation/marco data.
You can put 100âs of parameters on each knob (or any macro) & use them as knob-mutes that only mute when you touch them & vol comes back when you let go or set it up in reverse - Assigning the mixer vol is cool, it letâs you cut the vol in & out real fast, which you canât do with assigning the Mute control, but with Vol-mutes you have to have good timing as you can clip the sound, which can make your song sound rough (I donât mind some of that tho).
I like to use the macros as to counter some unwanted things like the filter clipping by setting the resonance high when using the LPF but have a macro that turns the vol down by limiting the range of that parameter so it turns down (set the macro to reverse) the vol at the range to stop it from clipping when your making filter sweeps.
JJOS is still getting busy!

The new Fill-in feature:
Honestly try one out before buying if you can. I just tried the modern Mpc for the second time with 3.9.1 and sold it today. It just saps all the fun out of music for me (I used to use a Mpc 2000xl and 2500 and loved them). Just sold my Mpc x se, replacing it with a DN2 most likely. I am happy for the people who love the modern mpcs, but I am happier on Elektron gear then finish off in Ableton
Hello! Since plugin presets donât support MIDI Program Changes, how do you handle using different presets across a live set within a single projectâespecially when working with the Clip Matrix? Iâm trying to keep the project locked to 8 tracks to match a Launch Control XL without losing my mind. Any solid workflows or workarounds?
I am extremely new to MPC having had Sample since spring and an XL since late August. I am coming from using the first gen DT & DN and now DT2 & DN2, SN and Cycles (though I recently sold the SN). I do not use a computer based DAW and I donât have interest in that.
I am very much enjoying the MPC and so far have zero regrets getting the XL. That said, I am finding that I am drawn to it for different reasons that my Elektron gear (and other synth stuff). Itâs such a different concept and with different strengths, and for me I am am enjoying that diversity. I have no plans to sell my Elektron gear as it has its own obvious awesome strengths. If I had to pick one ecosystem over the other, it is too early for me to make an informed decision on that, but it would be a tough one and would depend on what I wanted to focus on in terms of music type.
Definitely valid, we are all different.
For me I am very comfortable using Ableton/Reason, have used both for 15+ years. So mixing and arranging is second nature in those environments.
I use hardware to get back to enjoying the music making process away from the computer.
The MPC just felt halfway between two worlds for me, and not like the old MPCs. At the end of the day I would get frustrated with the interface knowing I could do the same mixing and arrangement in 1/4 of the time in Ableton. And that extra layer of complexity took me out of the reason I was using hardware in the first place.
But this is just me and I understand itâs a dope bit of kit. I guess I am leaning away from all in one powerhouses and more in to stuff that does its own limited thing well.
I just bought a Digitone 2 with the money from the MPC to go with my Digitakt 2, overbridge to Ableton when I want to record or master/mix etc.
Your points are also super valid. That is the thing with all of these workflows and devices. One perfect thing for one is far from perfect for someone else.
I still use ableton (and have push 3, but have been using it less these days), but the MPC (I currently have the XL) has been so much faster to get things down than ableton for me. I think I have personal cognitive issues with how many choices there are in Ableton Live.
It bogs me down.
The new MPCs is sort of feel like a focused hardware DAW and the combination of excellent file management with direct connectivity with my modular makes it the right choice for me at this time.
This is an are that needs improvement in my opinion. Favourites/one level of tags at the very least to make this any better than browsing a 2003 computer file system
Both of you, are right. Itâs still better than a lot of hardware? I wish we 16 of the shortcut folders. Each assigned to a pad & all the stuff you mentioned.
