I hate to say it but I am not impressed. with what we have to make beats these days it is not a top 3 contender.
People seem to want alot from a $200 box…
the HiHat sounds really good i think… the snare is just a washed out white noise snare, but thats just its sound it seems… the rim sounds good… the kick is kind of mid rangey, more so than say the volca which is more snappy and deep…
i havent been looking forward to this and wont be buying one, but its seems good for about $200 to me…
Im not a fan of the volca beats, which i think has a good kick and not much else going for it… the HiHats in this demo are so much better than PCM stuff in the volca…
Odd choice going with groovebox thing, another drum element sans the bass would have been a better idea i think…
sometimes i get the feeling when its not a straight up TR clone most people just arent happy… to me it doesnt sound as bad as everyone is making out thats for sure, it sounds like a cheap entry level analog box, and thats what it is…
korg wins!
This machine sounds terrible and flat.
IF it is actually $200 street, this box sounds nice. I don’t understand the hate. It’s very “classic” which can be changed easily with a pedal. I would love to hear what this sounds like with good saturation pedals on it.
Yeah it isn’t an Analog Rytm. There are tons of boxes out there for a better sound. But $200…
I’ll be honest I don’t like the Volca Beats. I think that besides the kick its super tinny and weird. the Wolf sounds plain but deep. I’m listening with headphones and that kick at least is fat as fuck.
Plus that interface looks NIIICCCEEE
To be honest I believe that all the hate that you talk about comes from all the “unprofessional” lies and “unprofessional” delays about this product by akai professional. Everybody was expecting something good to hear to but that’s not the case…yet. I have still hope because I think that akai “professional” is listening right now
I’m sure someone will make an exquisite beat/song with it!
I have it and yes without the howl it is a very simple sound - classic is a good description. The howl is the overdrive that adds the punch. That said it is analog so the overdrive will get noisy quick but to me it just takes a 1/8 of a turn to give it the fuller sound I was looking for.
I am curious if any other owner feels the noise level at high howl is acceptable - seemed a bit higher than I expected.
The bass is that - just an analog bass - no modulation options (guess that could be a mod).
MIDI is very simple - notes and program(pattern) changes. I did not see any cc data coming out when I was tweaking the pots.
Construction is pretty good - pots and pads feel good and the box feels solid.
I did a review video for the Akai Rhythm Wolf.
I felt compelled to make this video as it’s crapness really did annoy me.
Personally I’d rather have paid another £50-100 for something that had a lot more features and capabilities.
and a little jam with it and the OP-1
That sounds a bit like those tempest demos, from ppl wich struggle to program decent drumsounds on it, with the exeption you cant program anything on this akai thing o0 .
