That Syntakt Sound

one of the best pieces of hardware for this exact thing

@Oxenholme and you certainly put it to good use

I canā€™t seem to finish anything these days, so here is a collection of patterns. Some hard-hitting, some more mellow. All Syntakt, mostly through Analog Heat.

These are all super vibe-y! Straight out of some scruffy techno bunker. Great stuff.

Here is my latest song. Done entirely on Syntakt and OG Digitone. And nobody played guitarā€¦

Iā€™ve made a track breakdown of the latest jam, where Iā€™m sharing some of my ā€œtricksā€ around Syntakt sound design. I thought it might be useful to some in here who are still learning how to make the Syntakt sound like their own.

I was listening to Lindstrom the other day, and was inspired by his tight disco sound. So I tried to get close to that sound on the Syntakt. I ended up running everything through the FX track, cranking the drive to get that ā€œglueā€ and using the notch filter as an EQ. Apologies for the silly intro :upside_down_face:

Single take, straight from the Syntakt. No post-processing.

Loving the intro, actually.

Haha, cool. It was fun using it as a sort of silly contrast to the more Ā«seriousĀ» sound of the later parts.

I was quite happy with how the drum parts turned out, and spent a lot of time getting them to sound right. Itā€™s not the kind of sound the Syntakt normally lends itself to. At least not in my hands :slightly_smiling_face:

You nailed the vibe! Love Lindstrom

For you abbreviation ST stands for Syntakt Tapas probably. Tiny dishes of yummies.

Over the past few days Iā€™ve been slowly catching up with the last year of this thread. So much incredible material here, yā€™all are incredibly talented. I actually felt inspired to do something and post it up.

Spent about 45 mins with the Syntakt this evening. This is extremely different from my usual style but it was fun. Tried to make significant changes to at least one or two things in every pattern variation. Straight from the Syntakt.

Not to detract from the rest of the song, but I really love the last 30 seconds of this track. It reminds me of OPN. How did you create that fast paced arpeggio-like sound?

Oh yeah the last 30 seconds are where I found my groove. I also ran out of ideas afterward so thatā€™s where it ends. For the arpeggio sound - do you mean the melodic blip bloops? If so the parameters are:

Sy Toy
Form 61
Pnch OFF
Dec 53 (this changes throughout the track)
Imp 21
Bright 17
Part 96
Overdrive 51
LFOs point to imp, bright, decay or part depending on the pattern.

Reverb to taste. Delay varies through the track but at the end I was cranking everything through the delay and messing with decay times via Ctrl All, that attributes to the arpeggio feel I think. I play with the filter envelopes for this track a bit throughout the song as well. Slam the track through maxed-out OD in the FX Block. That should basically be it.

Just checking in to say the analog FX block is such a cool feature that I feel like many other devices would benefit from something like it. The drive into sequenceable multimode filter and being able to route freely is crazy. I know this has been said a bunch already, but sometimes it really inspires me all over again

Do you think Syntakt could be capable to something like this glitchy stuff on its own or would samples be needed anyway?

I think half of the Syntakt youtube videos sounds like that. :grinning:
