How is your Isla s2400 journey so far. I’ve been eyeing that for a while but I was worried I would miss the elektron workflow and specifically the Rytm sound. I’m usually into the stuff that I make on the Rytm, so despite not being able to slice, I just can’t really part with it.

I thought I would share come recent hip hop beats from the Rytm, recorded into a TX-6. These are mostly sample based with some low end help from the analog synths.

I’ve used the s2400 for a little over a year, and I’ve made more music than ever in that period. I did miss the Rytm a lot though. Here’s a comparison of each ones’ strengths:

S2400:

Amazing to chop samples, it automatically divides samples into 8 slices in a mute group per track if you go into multimode, meaning that you can load a drumbreak and its chopped immediately. Changing samplestart/endpoints is a breeze as well.
Very flexible sound, it can go from clean to the sp1200 aliasing and something in between. Its very easy to mix, everything you put in sounds great.
You get 8 very flexible loopers, which can also be used to set up an fx loop using ext fx.
Some great modern features like 8 track usb recording (without a plugin like overbridge), sd card streaming.
Built like a tank, nice pads, looks good.
Stereo!

Rytm:

The best sequencer ever. The s2400 is alright, but the Rytm sequencer is magic. It just feels so hands on and alive…
Analog drum sounds, and way more sound shaping features (also for samples). The Rytm feels like you could experiment endlessly.
Good build quality, Looks amazing, very well designed.
The Rytm sound is less flexible but has way more character than the S2400. Everything sounds massive, but hard to tame.

It feels like both machines excel at different parts of the musicmaking proces. On the S2400 its very inspiring to just record some samples and chop them up. Layer some more samples and the track is done. Less is more.

On the Rytm there’s a slower start and thinge take more time, but you can keep on finetuning, performing and experimenting for ages.

I think you should stick to the Rytm as it matches your style perfectly. Maybe try to use a little sampler on the side (koala of sp404?) in tandem with the Rytm.

I agree the Rytm tends to be a slow start but with a big payoff as the track comes together. It’s always handy to have those synth engines available when you need them, even though I’m more into sampling. And the filter is just right for me personally. It opens so many possibilities for sound design. Honestly my only gripe is the limited memory and lack of slicing. Otherwise it’s perfect.

The s2400 looks very fun. I have space constraints in my Brooklyn apartment so sadly I would really have to choose one over the other. Ah well, can’t have them all right? I do admire the spirit of this drum machine and I think it’s a great thing that such projects have come to fruition.

Sixteen zaps firing over a blubby beat:

The Soundboard:
Place a trig on every trig of a track. Put a different sound on every trig. You can use different samples, airhorns and zaps and whatnot, and then trigger them like a sound board by pushing the trig and hitting YES. Make sure to save the track, it’s easy to accidentally erase a trig.

Also, if you just want these random zaps/etc firing off every once in awhile, set track probability to 5% or so, it will randomly fire a trig every other loop or so.

I made 16 zaps for you! Try it! The zaps on Rytm are so wobbly and good.

it’s time to mention the great ability to route USB audio thru different tracks and even better, to split the L/R digital audio over two tracks simultaneously.

it’s a great Analog route for the OP-1 for instance, using the filter, VCAs, fx, compressor and such, I do love the fact that the pad (track) picks up the Audio and visualizes it with light, great implementation of levels up to +18db and the „new“ tuning makes some layering with analog machines a breeze.

I think a TX6 can therefore be a good match and AH+FX is now in a far far distance, because it’s more integrated on rytm and a similar Analog channel strip

based on the title, is it multiple dvco tracks going at the same time? but how are you getting one track to trigger another… some kind of NEI use? or are you triggering it from an external keyboard set up to trigger many channels simultaneously?

the way 12216xdvco is played it sound like there’s an external keyboard…

are there samples involved?

TELL US WHAT IS HAPPENING.
