He also played piano on the last bonobo record
So in short, he’s kind of blowing up and becoming part of the music industry establishment.
Is he blowing up? He’s been in the world since like 2012
That statement was meant more as a “how have I not heard of this fellow” sort of thing. I wasn’t a fan but then I don’t pay much attention to popular media so it was easy for me to miss. I like what I hear though.
I knew him since his album Insides from 2009, which also had some really great tracks on it.
Like this one
Oh wow yeah I didn’t realize that album was that old already.
Still think the best thing on the new album is the sound design not the tracks.
Too many similarities to immunity imo.
One track (can’t remember which) sounds almost identical to open eye signals, which was one of the stand outs on immunity.
On the second half there are some choral vocals that sound really cheasy to me, almost lile a lord of the rings soundtrack or something.
It’s probably a great album and I might be enthusiastic if there wasn’t the predecessor
Dat swing on his grooves tho. Sad that elektrons newer shit can’t swing. Especially the arps. Such a pity.
Song Exploder podcast:
nice interview. thanks
I liked that work he did with eno , not sure what eno had to do with it.
Also nice to see orbital back with new album , new black dog albums and skee mask has a good album out too.
Speaking of Jon Hopkins - anyone hear anything by Max Cooper? New name to me, but he’s on a similar vibe to Hopkins, maybe some of you’ll like it.
I like
Yeah, he‘s great
Yeah I am really enjoying this album. Agree with what was said above about sound design being the most interesting part, but some tracks really slap. Emerald Rush is my fave from the album right now
i saw him play this saturday in stockholm. Never listened to him before, though i recognised some of his tunes. All I can say, the party was LIT lol! That huge layer-upon-layer atmosphere made itself just at home in a dark warehouse. One of my new faves, this man!!!
In my opinion: Cooper > Hopkins
