so I’ve got to a starting point for a template where I have
T6 (TR8S/thru)
T7( global recorder/flex) for transitioning between songs
T8 (master)
could someone shed some knowledge on how id go about putting what I’ve done so far across multiple banks as I’ve just found out copying banks isn’t a thing that can be done on the machine itself !?
have parts something to do with this if yes in what way ?
and do swing trigs automatically load with a bank or are they just another way the OT is trying to drive me nuts ?
Thanks for any other info or tips/tricks you can throw my way in setting up the OT for (potential) multiple live songs
Parts save machine assignments, effects and all related settings and parameters as well as midi tracks selected for a track, program changes, midi cc assigned on a track and note, arp, lfo settings and parameters.
So for templates you want to save the part (I have my go to templates always in the last bank) and then paste it onto the part in a bank you want to start working in.
Trigs, p-locks, swing trigs etc. are saved in the pattern.
If you copy/paste a track, you paste the assigned machine/midi settings and all the stuff like amp, lfo, fx/note, arp, CCs AND the trigs, p-locks for that track.
ok firstly thank you for the reply I’m intrigued when you say template(S)
so is that to say you have multiple templates at your disposal in each project (like 4 alternative templates on the 4 parts) ?
would i copy the same part across all 4 parts to start off with or ?
anything else you could suggest I do ?
Yeah, I have four parts with different cc assignments saved in the last bank and also other templates ready in other banks.
The last bank always has my current go to settings saved in the parts (OT used to be my drummachine and midi sequencer, now I use it mostly as mixer, fx processor and also midi sequencer, so depending on the role my OT plays, the go to template might change) and different cc assignments so I can connect other synths or midi capable effects without having to lookup anything.
Other banks have templates for sampling and mangling external gear and also other setups that I regularly use.
You mean when you copy the template to another bank to start working on a track?
I usually don’t do that when composing tracks (each bank is dedicated to one “song”), because it’s just the starting point and I’ll probaply change some stuff in the part like loading different fx or changing machines.
When I need a part change (because I need different effects, different machines or a midi program change), I copy the part in which I’m currently working in and paste it to a different part and then continue to work in the new part.
I guess it depends how you work with parts and also banks.
just a lot to take in atm , think I’m to focused on the perfect template at the moment
so would I be right in saying your last bank (15/16) templates are continuously evolving ?
as of now I’m only using the OT and TR8S I don’t think I need to many other style templates but as I see your using bit more external gear I get your need for them
Absolutely, yes. Basically like my DAW template evolves and changes throughout the years, my OT template always has everything setup in a way that I can start working on music right away.
When I start a new project, I do the “save as new…” command which basically duplicates the project under a new name and then quickly delete all patterns on banks A-H ([Function]+[Play] with led off deletes pattern) so all templates are there without having to jump between projects and copying parts.
Save as new also brings all samples that have been loaded into slots into the new project. So those might need revisit, it’s a lot quicker for me than starting a new project, setting up midi channels, changing audio/recorder stuff to 24 bit and all that.
The reason why I keep other templates is also because I don’t have to setup machines, recorders, levels, fx and whatnot - especially the tasks you don’t do very often on OT might throw you out of the loop. If I haven’t done much sampling in the past month and quickly want to capture something, I don’t want to think about which setting I missed and why OT isn’t capturing the sample in the way I want.
I’d just set it up in the way you like your OT to start up basically.
