TEMPERA 2.1 OUT NOW!
Cool track
Thank you. It’s a complete album by 15 different people :] We used tempera and/or vector for these from beetlecrab audio.
This looks great - should I buy one?
It is worth having a closer look at both.
NEW BETA FIRMWARE ON TEMPERA DISCORD DROPPED TODAY!
Improved BPM can now be stored inside a canvas. Simply toggle the “Canvas” button under the BPM counter inside :Settings: and that’s it!
New option to play grains in reverse. Navigate to Emitter :Emitters: parameters, and adjust what percentage of grains should be played backwards.
Note that when a reverse grain is emitted, its starting position is at the bottom edge of the cell rather than the top edge as is in case of a standard forward grain. This is so it’s possible to play the same chunk but in opposite direction. Makes sense to me but feel free to voice opinion if you think otherwise.
Polished When you’re navigating an emitter’s parameters, all knob LEDs turn into the color of the edited emitter. Hopefully this will reduce some mistakes and errors with editing the wrong emitter!
Hi, has anyone ordered one to the UK? What was the total cost with import charges?
Thanks
Mine is on its way - £722 including tax and delivery and an outrageous £17 amex currency conversion fee
Look forward to hearing what you think. I have been tempted a few times but was holding out to see if they got UK distribution- Andersons has been pretty good at getting stuff from the smaller boutique companies in the past.
New beta for tempera dropped today on discord! beetlecrab.audio
EDIT: 3/6/2025 another beta out on discord with a new STEP LFO option!
The 2.1 update looks really good, getting real GAS for this one! Not much user feedback, what do you all think? Any UK users imported one?
It’s very interesting and fun to play with, the user interface is in its own category and it’s really good at what it does. I’ve seen people do fun drum stuff with it , but I find myself creating similar stuff most of the time though : textures, pads, ambient weirdness …
In my opinion it’s best used on its own, as it can be a bit tricky to integrate to a live set up although the last upgrade with midi program change helps a lot.
In conclusion : a very fun synth if you’re looking for granular synthesis, a bit overpriced as it is produced by a very small company, but the creator is very responsive on discord and always up for upgrade ideas, so it will continue to get better !
I think it’s a great concept. I’d like messing with granular, it producing really atmospheric effects. I’ve got the Torso S-4 which does it partly, but as they said from the beginning, it’s not a full-on granular device, it’s a ‘sculpting sampler’. Well…maybe in the future. Got my eyes set on two remaining devices I need to save for first.
How does it work ?
I also read about comb filters, new granular fx…
So I am curious about Tempera’s incoming audio processing possibilities…
Any info welcome.
I really like it, much more than the other granular options I have tried so far both in software and hardware, modular or stand alone. It sounds very good, the UI works really well and it keeps being refined. The developer is active and responsive but it already feels like a finished product to me. Decent built in effects and plenty of internal modulation. Excellent build quality.
You can hear it here as the main instrument and here more as a textural/background layer within a bigger setup.
Favorite couch synth ever because of size and versatility.
I am a fan for sure. I pretty much turn it on every day for something. So much to do and still I forget so much as well haha. Definitely one of the best granular-samplers out there!
The discord channel is a great place to hang as well. Great people and beetlecrab audio is a great small company!
Ordered ! ![]()
I also today ordered! Race! ![]()
Been lurking too long trying to decide between this and the S-1…the 2.1 update was enough (and the beta 2.2 looks good as well!)
The VESA mount is also good for me as I have a dual monitor stand currently holding my Syntakt and Digitone over my desk (with a synth underneath), its a nice little bonus to be able to mount this way…
Ahah! Where are you living ?
S4. ![]()
Yep I saw VESA ! ![]()
I was thinking about fixing Tempera to Digitone and Digitakt…
