Teenage Engineering OP-Z

I managed to get it to stop getting a feedback loop the moment i press play on the OP-Z. But now the sounds really distorted, like theres a bitcrush effect on the whole chain. I double checked the mixer on the op-1 and there is no FX applied. I tried several different usb-c cables and still the same result :frowning:

Also tried plugging a usb-c hub into the op-z and then the op-1 into it, but alas, no sound.

Edit: Scratch that, I managed to get it to work, looks like my input gain was set way too loud, the moment I turned it down everything sounded good!

I barely use my DT OG since I got OP-Z. I miss my Model Samples that I sold in favor of DT OG several years back, and DT is just collecting a dust. OP-Z feels like a toy and It looks like a TV remote but contains a world of musical possibilities. I really love this device and regret that I spend a lot of time with other gear that doesn’t make sense as much as OP-Z.

That’s one of the biggest letdowns of XY for me. Coming mostly from Elektrons, I wasn’t even aware that you have to check whether a groovebox does have something like mute mode or not. Happened with Bento before, where you also have to stay on the mixer page to be able to mute, which means you can’t do anything else that’s not on the mixer page. Push also makes this surprisingly complicated.

Fully agree, it makes performing with the XY a bit tricky for me. Also the fact the mute mode is different depending on which screen you’re on.

If te ever made a wireless battery powered midi controller that pairs with the field system, that would be really cool.

I made a tutorial about using the gyroscope LFO so that tilting the device adds a drum fill or variation:

  • Set LFO Parameter 4 (shape) to 6, making sure 0 isn’t highlighted, which enables the gyroscope
  • Set LFO Parameter 3 (destination) to 8, volume
  • Set LFO Parameter 1 (amount) to the middle range, where the LED flashes green for a second
  • Add parameter locks to LFO Parameter 1 on some steps, setting it to a dramatic positive or negative amount
  • You may also want to add some parameter locks to volume on some of those same steps

Also it gets more interesting than that but I don’t feel like typing it out at the moment :joy:

I just discovered that triple pressing on the mixer button keeps you there and no need to hold the mixer button! It works for pattern selection the same way. So you can mute tracks without holding mixer button or change patterns without holding pattern button. If you knew it before… why didn’t you tell me?
