Teenage Engineering OP-Z

Just a simple reminder that OP-Z is a device that still can pull this without any problems. Dont’ get me wrong, op-z itself is not the only talent there - he makes it play :fire:.

But Move is not a OP-Z competitor and despite 4 Tracks Only ( which are more tracks actually considering the Grid to be Chromatic X sample ) does is job pretty well and not just in terms of design but the Synths onboard ( Drift and Wave ) are more …more powerful than the OP-Z ones and I Lov my OP-Z. Move has the quickest workflow so far…almost too quick

I had to resurrect my dead OP-Z battery by ordering a replacement battery that a person on Reddit successfully swapped in for the original. I was able to jump the original TE battery with the new one, so now I have a spare.

My plan for the next week or so is to explore using the OP-Z in tandem with the Move. I’ve been entering notes in the Z sequencer using the Move pads. The next step is recording the midi with step components and punch in fx back into the Move.

Alex, do you use Iphone to record video? Do you use lightning to USB camera adapter? Or is it Android phone? I tried to connect my Google 4 XL to record video of my OPZ but standard camera app doesn’t recognize my OPZ as audio source.

Ifixit seems to be out of stock on most OP-Z spare parts, I wonder if that’s temporary or permanent. Would be good to replace some feet, the on/off cap and get a spare battery :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I waited around 8 months for a OP-1 replacement keybed a few years ago. I finally got tired of waiting and sent it back to TE for repair.

i’d like to buy some replacement power caps in case y’all have a link. mines on the edge of life.

Get one printed. I replaced mine with the short 3d printed one by @MichaalHell, and I like it way more than the original.

I confirm, after 2 replacements from TE I self-printed a replacement in red, and it’s more robust and beautiful at the same time

I picked up one of these super cheap on eBay on a bit of a whim - does anyone have any top tips or good resources for getting started?

Mainly thinking it might be fun to jam with on the sofa when I’ve had enough screen time, not expecting anything mind blowing in terms of results. I have an OP-1 and it’s good fun but the tape workflow isn’t for me, so I’m curious to see their approach to step sequencing!

The True Cuckoo tutorial is excellent. He’s got a good way to think about all of the sections of the UI that really orients you.

On YouTube look for Cuckoo OP-Z and it should be the first one to come up.

Going to check it! Thank you

I’ve never seen OPZ battery in stock, an I monitor ifixit within a year.
