Really interesting. What I think could work in 2020 is to take this concept but use iPhones and androids for the software/screen and the bottom bluetooth midi controller.
it would certainly have less complexity and cheaper to implement.

Ugh. Nice design skills, but terrible idea for a product, IMHO. But then I’m not constantly fascinated, addicted to and amazed by phones the way that 99% of the population seem to be.

ah yes. indeed. I wanted to basically say this but in the form factor of the design. the opz was not designed to slide under the phone or couple with an iPhone case for example afaik. its also not the same size.
i’d be in for one! even if it didn’t even turn on 
What ever happened to that stems player they were allegedly working on with Kanye?
I wish the same but on a nokia 3310 plz. And don’t forget the snake.

And the phone hardware would be out of date on release
Likely become incompatible with any phone os update after a year or two.
If it needs repair you lose a lot more than a synth for a month or two.

Let’s see if we can get you to replace your phone with a janky phone from a company that doesn’t make phones. And let’s make sure it has a slide out control surface that will definitely stop working after less than a year, will instantly become a non-supported, non-updateable orphan phone, and probably isn’t compatible with much of the music software you might already have on your existing phone. And now the good news: let’s make sure it costs more than 200% of any comparable phone and bluetooth controller combo.

I’m not dawless or computerless in my music making, but I get the whole “I need to make music away from a computer” thing for various reasons. The same could apply to phones, if not more so. It would be a major hindrance to productivity to be in the middle of making music on this thing, only to get push notifications, emails, text messages. All of them needing to be urgently responded to, of course. Major drag… sure, there could be a “don’t bother me while synth portion is slid out” but are you really going to use it? That takes a level of commitment and discipline most have shown they don’t have.
I’d only feel confident purchasing this if it is over EUR1000.
Otherwise it might be a toy.

I’d absolutely be down for this even if it didn’t have phone functionality, in fact I’d prefer if if they focused on making it just a pocket instrument. Looks rad, I’d definitely pay op-1 bucks for it
