To be honest, I blame all the guys and gals who looked to make a buck and ride the market by selling their OP-1’s at a profit. At the end of the day, these folks gave TE as clear a message as any as to what prices people will pay for one of these. Can you really blame them if they considered this with their pricing not that it is available again?

If it was intentional, it’s actually an interesting pricing mechanism. Letting the market determine your RRP more fluidly to a point would makes some sense.

It was a customer of theirs that was selling at that price. It was actually multiple customers. Ebay never bought nor sold an OP-1, as they don’t use synthesizers to build their website.

Well I don’t think any company is obligated to justify their price increases, I’m sure they have good reason for it, it is easy to jump to conclusions, I just don’t think they would put out that email and then after the fact think “ooh we could put our prices up now” it doesn’t seem logical.

I’m neither defending it nor am I outraged at it, their company, their product, their price, people will either buy it or not.

I just checked ebay UK and since December 2018 most OP-1s went for between £750-£900, those were used without warranty.

Edit: Point being the one that went for silly money (if indeed it did in fact sell) wasn’t a benchmark for OP-1 prices, so the theory that TE saw that as an opportunity to raise their prices looks highly unlikely.

I never hid the fact that I sold mine for profit. Seemed crazy not to. People were going nuts.

and yeah, that decision was made after te post saying ‘don’t pay crazy prices, we’re still making them’…so why wouldn’t I have assumed that I could buy again later without them suddenly being £400 more expensive? Clearly TE wanted all the people prepared to pay big bucks to hold off and buy new stock from them at an inflated price.

I’m somehow the bad guy in this? Erm, Ok…

just imagine buying it for that price and then realise all those limited-editionextras TE throws in; terrible speaker, semi-functioning battery indicator, useless mic, un-. adjustable screen brightness, very dodgy connector board…

I sold mine for £1200. So did someone else on this thread. And I saw loads go for over £1000 and some for even more than I sold for.

It is what is… You really think a £400 hike is down to difficulty sourcing tiny pieces of mediocre materials etc and isn’t in any way related to TE seeing the used prices? £400 extra per unit? What kind of materials etc could cause that £400 per unit hike? And would it make business sense to pursue manufacturing them at all if that was the case?

Im sure TE will come back with an explanation for the price increase, they will certainly be met will lots of angry e-mails and comments on social media.

You forgot badly shielded components inside that cause a ton of noise if you sample straight to tape from input/mic :wink: It’s a rad box but £1200… nah. Wouldn’t surprise me if it cost like £150/£200 in parts etc…

Like I said if you look at completed sale prices people were not paying big bucks for them, at best £1 over the previous new price, but typically less aside from 1 that was boxed as new, surely TE if they had intended to capitalise on this would have loooked at actual sales prices?
