That’s dumb… they upgraded from a tiny amount of storage to a tiny amount of storage? Awesome, now the people that bought the first one are mad and the cases won’t match now, are they going to make a new case out you just carry it in the packaging?
Whatever, this company never makes any sense so I’m not surprised more last minute poor decisions, about right.

yeah its a weird choice but its not gonna change anything about how i use mine so life keeps movin on

tbh its probably a good thing they didnt double up my storage space…that obviously means it would double up the heat and quantity of my beats and we cant have that

speaking of this, how is everyone dealing with the tiny storage?

for a sampler with relatively sophisticated chopping/slicing capabilities, it has very little space for resampling and loops

is there a software editor that can pitch all of your stored samples up an octave or two or something?

i know this doesnt work for everyone but i just have like 1/3rd of the space filled with drums, percs, and 808s and then i record bits and pieces for whatever track im making. then when its full, i delete the 2/3rd of sampled stuff and keep going.

Honestly it’s not as big of an issue in-use as it seems. If i start from blank and just sample / resample sounds in as needed and with no regard to space, the very worst case is i get to 5-6 projects instead of the full 9. If i start with some samples in it, maybe a bit less ,but again, that’s in the worst case. 128mb will be more than enough imo. If you need a large sample library with you , have it on your phone and just sample into the EP as you go

Lmao!!! That’sa great attitude!! I really don’t care either, I don’t even really use it like that. It is cool to get some loops from or weird vocals, found sounds, etc. However I don’t really even use it much. I got a bunch of Etsy stuff on it though and the case so it looks super cool… I might sell it though for a case for my live 3, I really want a case for that but can’t get it past my wife without a good reason so I might sell it… I still like it though, I kind of like that it is the 64mb one… it has a cool vibe to it. I hate the sequencer though.

It’s not a thing in actual reality

That’s a shame. I’d rather have the smaller storage and longer sampling time personally. I wonder why that’s a hard limitation (RAM I guess?).

I could just about manage with 20 seconds in most cases but there are lots of times when sampling a few minutes of something is useful - or just dumping a whole track into a sampler to chop up/look for gold.

I can’t see any other benefits to the new version though - are they really releasing a v2 and only adding that?

i think the parts theory makes sense because TE said they had enough of the off the shelf EP parts to maintain production for a few years in an attempt to subvert the parts shortage. if they got to the end of their supply and now have two other EP devices that have 128mb, it may make more sense to just bump it up to the 128mb than put in another big 64mb chip order.

Makes sense. I guess it’s less of a v2 and more of a small update that is conveneint for them.

Juno have the new one on pre-order for £250 which is pretty tempting…

i’m suspicious of those numbers. after all the factory samples, i had about a minute of stereo sample time on the og.

These numbers are based on calculations. However, I decided to test this in practice and created a 20-second stereo audio sample, which I then duplicated. I was able to upload 17 of these files, each with a size of 3,680,044 bytes (≈3.7 MB on disk).

The total uploaded audio amounts to 5 minutes and 40 seconds of stereo audio at 46 kHz / 16-bit. According to the transfer tool, the total space used is 62.61 MB, which aligns closely with my calculated estimate.

I hit the memory limit with the EP pretty soon, but it’s ok - it is not a device intended for long sampled tracks or huge libraries, it is all about the workflow I think - quickly making tracks without second thought. It excels at that.

Question on this, would being able to drop a longer than 20sec sample or song into an app and have it split it up help? I’ve already added the ability to pitch up samples in EP-PatchStudio on export to fit 40sec of audio data into the 20sec limit, then it can be pitched back down on the device.

But automatically having the tool split one longer audio file into multiple 20sec EP samples and then automatically transferring to the device would help, right?

Trying to understand other people’s pain points and helping create solutions.

Agree. Same components in all devices, easier sourcing parts in bulk and similar assembly.

Technically yes, however I’d find that a bit of a workflow killer. If I were adamant about using the EP then I could make that work (and I might like to process the audio with Decimort anyway), but life is short and I favour fewer steps where I can!

Biggest issue is where I want to directly sample stuff - records, guitar etc - as I’d want to use the EP for that - I’d end up using my 404 to sample and at that point I might as well just use my 404.

I humbly suggest the ep133/40 is not for you, or at least not for that. You will be disappointed.

do you guys just delete all the factory samples?

there’s very little space on mine with all of them on there

One thing I’ve done to help (as this was a use case for me too) was to allow direct recording of samples in the app from audio interface or loopback and then send straight to the EP.

I’ve deleted a lot, but not all. I like some of the factory ones. I’ve found maybe 2-300 slots of my own samples is loads.

yup i removed them right away, ive got plenty of other drumkits from The Kount if i want those vibes again
