Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

it would make sense that its an easily adaptable platform, like the pocket operator form factor. the hardware remains the same but the function varies within a certain range. but when they released the ep-133 i heard they only had that one design done, that printing “ep series” on the back of the box was kind of like an aspirational thing they did for fun. meaning that they would probably do more in the series but it certainly wasn’t planned for sure already back then.

That makes perfect sense.
Even the logos are very very similar:

It’s a great theory if this was some sort of release on gotland only, that would be weird enough for TE. But to have it shipped to stores around the world to be ready to go on sale, so so so strange

Only available through Medieval Week, super limited……

I’d be totally into that. Also, only available in Gotland, I’d be into regional releases. Like the Moog fest pocket operator

It would be cool if it’s a sample-pack themed 133, so everyone would get access to it :crossed_fingers:

for what its worth… which isn’t much… some dude going around on reddit saying its not just a reskin… i’m leaning towards believing him, would make sense this is not just a new colorway.

hes been around for a couple months saying the same thing, he was the first one to mention a medieval theme before the pictures were released. im thinking they also work at a retailer and probably dug further into the box.

got you! that’s exciting!!! would love another device with different functions in the ep form factor. even if it is this, uh, color. i love the po-32 the most, and if this is a version of that, i don’t care what it looks like!

Definitely hoping for a whole new device. And I agree, “EP-1330” would be the clear medieval name of a 133 variant. So here’s hoping.

That said, wasn’t there something about them only having rights to the Ali photo for a certain time? Maybe the new one is a re-brand of the existing unit for that reason? It would be a truly bizarre choice though, lol

I doubt this, but the Rick and Morty PO was fairly limited, they left money on the table not producing more of them.

Might be personal bias but I think rick&morty appeal to more people than
Uh
Medieval thingie

If this is a reskin it is one of the worst I have seen unless the display graphics are cool.

not a rekin, new functions

  • TE creates a new device based on that same old Braun calculator design: “yeah, wow, such creativity”.
  • TE creates something actually creative and interesting: “unoriginal, terrible design aesthetic”.

:man_shrugging:t2:

im sure this is tongue in cheek but i dont think anyone lauded the ep133 for its original design, the direct connection to the calculator was beaten to death in fact and nobody here is calling this medieval one unoriginal, exactly the opposite, everyone is surprised by the departure from the norm. not to mention the fact that they are shoehorning the medieval aesthetic into the calculator hardware design. they both riff on a type of nostalgia tho so there is a through-line, wouldnt really say “originality” is the intention, familiarity is.

Yes, I am hyperbolizing. But in this day and age, when the consumer electronics coolness factor is determined by the level of glossiness of the black glass, to see something so quirky and mischievous is a feast for the eyes.

Reminds me of WinAmp skins, when with a click of a button you could travel from this:

and vice versa

TE-David said here it‘s definitely fake, now we‘re expecting it to be released in two days…what times are these, where some stranger on Reddit with a shaky photo has become a more reliable & truthful source of information than the head/the spokesperson of the company in question?!
