Technique: pickup mayhem

Hey there,
I’m trying this technique and pressing track+ midi just brings me into midi mode. Using a OT mk II.
Is there another way to duplicate my sample? Somehow the audio-editor does not duplicate my sample length when I “select all” and “duplicate selection ->”.

Thank you and cheers

This functionality seems to have been removed from the Octatrack MK2 OS. The paragraph that explains this in OT MK1 manual, is not present in the MK2 manual (compare section 9.3.2, page 50 in either manual).

I also tried myself some key combinations that would seem logical replacements, (e.g. [TRACK]+[PART], [TRACK]+[FUNC]+[PART], while in the recording menu - because on MK1 the MIDI button doubles as PART), without luck. Perhaps Elektron Support could clear this up if you submit a ticket.

Could you sum up (what functionality)?
AFAIK OS is the same. Buttons differ.

In the MKI and MKII manuals there are 2 x 9.3.2 paragraphs !

Duplicating (length wise) an existing sample

You mean with Pickup Playback page LENgth ?

From the before mentioned manual section, this specifically:
———
Once a loop has been recorded it can be doubled by either pressing [MIDI] while in the RECORDING SETUP menus, or by pressing [TRACK] + [MIDI] at any time. Note that this operation makes a copy of the loop at that specific moment, so it is recommended not to do this while overdubbing.

Thanks for precisions. So you mean it is not possible physically with MKII buttons ?
I have MKI, and that’s would be the first MKII limitation I read so it’s a very interesting point.
If there’s no workaround, it deserves some modifications from Elektron.

I can confirm that I’ve run into this same issue on my MKII. I would love to try out this recipe, but the [TRACK] + [MIDI] combo does not work.

The only reference to “Multiply” in the manual is in the MIDI input function chart. It seems like the functionality might be there, but the key combo isn’t.

Same for MKI manual.

Did you try REC3 in Recording Setup ?
(Grid Recording off then on)

But I guess you’re right, if it was removed from manual, not a lot of chance…
So that’s the first functionality difference between MKI and MKII I read.

Well I hope there is a way around!

I wrote a support ticket… but the vacation time just started. So it might take a while to get an answer.

Let us know if you get an answer!

Thank you for reminding me - I got an answer from the support team.

So yeah - first difference between the MKi and MKii firmware.

Does anyone know if this loop-doubling function has been returned to the mk2 yet?

The latest downloadable OS (1.30C) is from Nov/2017, so “No”.

I wonder why 1.30D got never officially released (you can get it only pre-installed or by requesting it from support). But I’ll guess it’s also too old to contain this feature re-enabled.

I have 1.30D pre-reinstalled. Let me check to see if it works.

EDIT: no.

so this functionality is still absent on mkii with current OS?

Not the functionality itself is absent but the access to this functionality from OT’s panel buttons.
Looks like you can still multiple pickup loop’s length from midi controller or midi loopback.
I haven’t tried yet.

Current OS is 1.31
Anyone knows if this function is back in business?
Im traveling at the moment,so cant update-check,but curious if i can get it rolling if im back home…
Anyone has 1.31 who can confirm?

With MKII? No button combination for that.
With external midi message? I only tested with Track + Midi button combination, MKI.

Mk2…on Mk1 the function is still there…
@dmon contacted support team and they told him/her:
“This functionality had to be removed temporarily on the MK2 but it will return.”
Was wondering if with 1.31 it returned…
If not im going to try the midi loopback way @WeirdFishes recommended.
