obviously everyone’s needs are different, but since becoming a dad 90% of my music making is happening on the couch or on the train (mainly my m8, but soon also the tbd 16) even to a point where i don’t consider buying new synths that i can’t take with me. i do have other gear, but it’s not worth much sitting unused in my studio.
i’m not saying it’s a bad idea to do it via a powerbank and it has a lot of advantages, i would just prefer the cleaner look of an inside connector. not trying to throw shade, i’m sure dadamachines put a great deal of thought into this
If the EU had their priorities right they’d be making this a legal requirement for manufacturers instead of passing legislation about weird niche devices like smartphones.
In a similar camp, but having a power bank option is a) more flexible b) doesn’t hike up price too much c) avoids the manufacturer cumbersome red tape for battery certification which then again b) and a)
regarding a) if you have to buy a specific powerbank the only flexibility is the choice whether to have a battery or not, and given the nature of the device i assume the vast majority of users is going to use theirs with a battery. but that is just my assumption. i think the device’s size and panel layout make perfect sense for mobile use.
I am actually looking into that.
As we got this question a lot at SUPERBOOTH. This might delay the release as we need to do at least one more run of prototypes.
But I agree that this feature would be a big plus.
We won’t do a switch here. It’s going to be Type A.
We already use a switch to have a Clock&Reset Input Option for people who want to sync the Sequencer with Modular. (Requires a Y Cable)
ok then. i wish could be like the tempera had that feature no actual mechanical switch but something you can change to a to b on the internal menu on the frimware.
in that case I would like to vote for no separate headphones out. personally I only ever use a stereo out on my machines. the crew who don’t need/use separate outs must speak up too
what I would mention is having a 2nd filter (base/width or high pass) on each track (ala elektron / opxy) makes mixing in the unit possible for folk like me. makes a big difference that.
Agree, second filter is really important. On the Digi boxes, being able to route it before or after the filter is one of the most important improvements.
A mixer option for the headphone out could be interesting, being able to cue or even use that headphone out as an alternate output could open up some interesting routing options.
Just a few thoughts — but first, thank you for an amazing “studio in your pocket” dream machine
Some questions / wishes if applicable:
Please allow recording of a pattern performance into a song chain.
Please add automation motifs as an option, so one could record / perform a long take of macro (or any CC) performance over a pattern groove.
I am hoping that the audio path becomes more flexible. The MI-style algorithms or modules all had FM inputs (I assume this is in the code). It would be nice if we could patch between tracks and use them as modulation sources for each other.
I have a bunch more thoughts, but I don’t have the time to fully invest in the system yet, so I’m not sure if they are valid. However, I would very much like to know how the UI operation works? — how you jump between modes, pages, modulation, and back, etc. Just general workflow.
I don’t know if there’s a shift option (to access extra encoder parameters per screen) or any shortcuts to modes, or similar functions.
On a last note, how far can this open source aspect be taken? Can we expect a new set of DSP stages — say mixing tools like EQ, tape saturation, compression, etc.? Is there space for new insert FX, seq-step FX, etc.?
And just a PS: if I understood correctly, the arpeggiator can be parameter-locked, and the Euclidean generator can be adjusted per step, which automatically expands sequence length when applicable?
ThankU so much for this … amazing to have this level/type/power in such a ''on the go portabiliity…
I have zero space so this really looks good. I noticed a launchpad mini in one photo, I am also interested in how that could be used . So many questions but I think I’ll just order it once it’s available.
After reading the documentation, i’m trying to get my head round the rompler tracks, which are where you use your samples and can be either one shot, slice or drumkit.
From what i’m reading though is that you can only select one kit of which all rompler tracks share the same pool of samples from the selected kit per project, do you have to curate a kit before being able to select it?
I was hoping drumkits would work similar to Move, Maschine, MC707, where you can sequence multiple drum samples per drum track and can select samples from your sample folder and then save your kits? @johannes-dada are you able to clarify this?
If so, hopefully someone is able to create an Ableton style drum rack machine.
hey. sorry I am a bit slow these days with answering. Lot’s of work with production preperation…
The device serves a WebUI where you can upload Samples to the Device. The samples you upload to the 32GB Storage in the device you can use in kits of currently up to 28MB > about 6 Minutes.
You can switch the kit inside of a project in like 2seconds. But you can only have one kit active in a project at a time.
Maybe we are able to preview from internal storage later on and also able to build the kit on the fly or even use samples from the internal storage.
