Iโd rather get a second Octatrack
Korg announced a new soundlink mixer at superbooth I believe but I canโt find the link. Itโs supposed to be able to record
Edit :
Was at namm not superbooth
โbut they arenโt audio interfacesโ WHY KORG WHY?!
i seriously donโt get companiesโ apparent aversion to integrating class compliant USB multitracking into any analog mixer at this point. that SoundLink would have been the easiest buy in the world for keyboardists who want to track into their DAW from a hardware mixer. and yet . . .
So its good for noe tr-909 and effects. Hehe
I have 32 channel mixer with 4 stereo aux returns, and still run out of channels when I get friends over.
All these new machines are really dumbed down from the kind of functionality that was available back in the day, as they still assume everyone will be using a DAW.
Everyone likes to throw around โDAW in a boxโ, but this thing was a serious DAW alternative. Just read the review to get a sense of the features.
The D3200, Roland VS-2480, among others. Even Akai had a really nice (and very expensive) MTR back then. Youโd find pretty robust audio editing capabilities with all those machines, some of them had motorized faders, etc. Thereโs a big gap in the market now for anyone who wants a product like that, and unfortunately the older machines have their own problems, so with a few exceptions theyโre not the most ideal solution either.
I wonder if there time has come and gone? I know thereโs still plenty of cheaper and more limited alternatives, but I imagine a company investing in developing a flagship device would see the market as pretty narrow.
I mean, TASCAM still sells the DP series if you really want a DAW in a box. The thing is, a box is a horrible thing to keep a DAW in. Using these feature-complete MTRs is a total pain in the ass.
IMHO the nice thing about the Model series is it lets DAWs be good at what DAWs are good at, and hardware be good at what hardware is good at, and provides a nice overlapping selection of I/O to move between them. A โbest of both worldsโ sort of thing rather than the โshoehorn it inโ approach.
Agree to disagree. You are clearly the target audience, but there are people out there that donโt want to use a DAW. For example, my good friend is a drummer and he still uses the D3200, as he has zero interest in using computers. Even the high-end Tascams arenโt as feature rich from what I recall (maybe no midi?). I got rid of my D3200 as the processing time is way too slow compared to what we are used to these days, but it was an awesome machine. I saw some photos a couple of years ago of a famous rock musician here in Japan recording on a D3200 for his latest album, so there are still people that like working exclusively on multitracks for whatever reason, and one would think that all the DAWless electronic people would be interested as well. That said, Iโd even like to see tape machines available again. Iโm a firm believer that progress is not always progress, sometimes itโs OK to backtrack, and old tech should be able to coexist with new tech if it still serves a purpose.
(Found one of the photos from that Japanese musician I mentioned. Such a lovely machine)
Jon Makes Beats showed off some tape magic in his last video. Loved it.
You are both right. And I agree with you both.
The simplicity of hardware is unbeatable when trying to focus on music alone, the possibilities of a DAW on a computer canโt be beaten on paper and certainly not on the range of tools regarding price/performance.
I would welcome more strictly hardware focused machines embracing simplicity by not sacrificing basic editing features.
I am getting impatient for this to be released. I need a new interface but donโt want to buy something to have the 2400 drop and then I realize itโs exactly what Iโve wanted.

says posted 6 days ago I think.
Oh shit!!! One of the downsides of not having social media is not seeing stuff like this.
I just googled it when I saw your post, but I used the tool that lets you filter by results within last week / 24 hours/ within the last hour etc.
I donโt do social media either.
Their website doesnโt even have it for sale yet.
" twisty face emoji "
it was posted by tascam official (the link in bio thing) so maybe only in asia currently? for some reason the japanese(?) social media link came up for me, so maybe check the .jp tascam site to confirm. or maybe my computer is messed up from looking at yahoo japan auctions.
Itโs in stock in Swedish retailers now
I hope that means itโs soon for the rest of the globe.
