Tangerine from 1010 Music

It sounds more like you got hold of a faulty device. Whether Tangerine is a robust live solution is a matter of your precise needs. The points you’ve raised do not provide many hints as to what those needs would be.

Yes, I own several devices by 1010music and my experience has been vastly positive. I’m definitely not a pro but I’ve used them several time in a live context without any issue. I find their instruments pretty stable/reliable.

I do agree that their external appearance is horrible, though…

It’s definitely possible it’s a faulty unit but it mirrors my experience with the Bluebox (channel dropouts, freezes) so idk.

That’s OK, I’m happy it makes you happy!) Just wanted to add my 2c since there’s not a lot of coverage about the Tangerine out there but obviously ymmv.

Re my specific expectations for live use - no freezes or dropouts would be a good start)

You seem unlucky. I’ve been using my Bluebox as my main mixer and recorder for several years

I’ve never had it freeze or a channel drop out. It’s not perfect by any means, but stability has never been an issue for me

Can this sampler sample VSTs? I mean, it can, but does it really work for practical use?
Lets say I want to multisample a fat analog Diva bass patch and then use Digitone to sequence that sound of Diva in tangerine.
Is it a feasible idea at all?

Totally feasible, the only thing that it can’t really do afaik (and this is the same as the 1010 Blackbox) is glide between notes. But unlike the BB, Tangerine has ADSR envelopes that can be used to shape vol and filter parameters which make it viable for replicating patches. It won’t be 1:1, but it will be a workable recreation.

Thanks. There is so little information about that particular application.

To be fair the advice I gave is generic, but I know what you mean. It’s an under-discussed use case, but honestly is probably one of the top intended uses by 1010.

To be clear though, the Tangerine currently does NOT have a filter envelope.

It’s one of my main gripes about it haha. Although I have to believe it’s coming in a firmware update one day

It is an overrated feature when working with samples. Tangerine is not meant to be a Prophet X.

Why no legato or portamento? I love this box. But not being able to use it as a true mono synth is disappointing. Will this function be added? I’m no scientist but it doesn’t seem impossible. Thanks!

The question we must ask ourselves at this point in the conversation is -

Why do you ask me?

Although I don’t mind the company :sunny:

Just got this beast and first off: way too big.

Secondly, i was just trying for eons to multisample a logic soft synth (kontakt grandeur piano) from C0 to C5 and it just would not work.

Finally when i changed it to C1 to C5 it is working aok. I also tried C0 to C4 but that didn’t work either. No biggie but is there and why would there be a low note limitation?

The important part is the MIDI note numbers. There are 2 standards for MIDI note names as far as I remember. Not 1010’s fault.
