Tahti – a software groovebox

great, this should probably get posted in the ios music apps thread here as well

Asiallista! (“httn” - Huttunen? hra Huttunen?)

I couldn’t get the browser versions to work on Safari (iPadOS latest public version) reliably? URLs with ready made patterns do play back, but I was unable to get blank projects to output sound…

The testflight app beta works fine though. iPad Pro M4 / 18.4.1

Testing on the iPad revealed one change I wasnt too keen on - BPM display lost the second digit! Is it coming back? IME, two decimals of BPM is crucial for tight sync between manually syncable sound sources… This used to be present, as its on the v1 of the webpage version

This seems like big fun!

@httnn Is the set of samples available in the web version going to be downloadable for the iPad version? I couldn’t find them in the app. Trying to load a sample takes me to the iPad Files browser, but there is no indication that the samples present in the web version are anywhere in the beta to download or access.

The iPad app is crazy powerful fun. 85% of my feature requests i always ask for in a sequencer is already present in the app.

Freaking amazing!

I really have to say, um… I didn’t even ponder using my tablet to use this, however, I don’t have my samples easily accessible on there. I went to the updated one, so I couldn’t say definitively what would be a great concept. But here goes some ideas if you decide to consider including keyboard controls in the VST version. I don’t know how you would consider the ‘controls’ to numerous parameters and such, however the sequencer it self as a means of putting in the sequence and playing back the sample mono-chromatically or potentially poly-phonically (maybe that’s possible over midi?) But in just looking at the keyboard maybe the numbers 1-8 and then the letters Q-I to cover the sixteen steps of the sequencer, (I have no clue on what it would be to include the backlighting on the macbook if it were simple to implement to use to have the keys light up or dim out so you can see the sequence on them).

As for any other controls I really haven’t used it enough to really think of other than switching to a different track page and maybe a kind of use of a key combo to ‘control all’ on a parameter or set of parameters I really don’t know what if anything else would be effective or useful to connect to the keyboard for control? But thanks for getting back with me.

Also I found a page regarding testing on test flight for the beta, is that where I would go to use the app/ stand alone VST ?

have to look into this, there might be some recent regressions.

thanks for the feedback, this will be fixed in the next update that i’m planning to release today!

not likely. the samples were collected into an open-source repository under the pretext that tahti is free software so i wouldn’t feel good about including them in commercial versions.

thanks for the feedback on keyboard input! the VST3/CLAP versions are separate from the TestFlight, join the tahti Discord and send me a DM if you want to join the plugin test group

@httnn I made an account just to drop by an say what an amazing app Tahti is! I d/l the Testflight and having a great time with it. So I wonder when the final release will be for the iPad? It seems to work all fine and perfect so far as I can tell. Compliments!

appreciate you dropping in

the features for the first stable iPad release are pretty much there now. still got a bunch of bugs to fix and other issues to sort. also need to bring the browser and desktop plugin versions up to date with the latest changes. so i’m hoping to get it done by the end of the year, but no promises.

btw, here are some of the most notable things that have been added in the past few months:

  • more filter modes
  • new synth engines: swarm, modal, wavetable (from MI Plaits), hands (original clap engine)
  • integrated sample library
  • increased step count from 64 to 128
  • mod skew parameter for more interesting mod shapes
  • a million smaller improvements, tweaks and bug fixes

That is a fantastic list of features! I love this thing for minimal techno, and the randomization options often gives very inspiring results.
I wish I could somehow transfer the track I made in the desktop version to the iPad version to work on it some more (and maybe swap it forth and back).

you can! the pattern format is the same and 100% compatible between the browser/iPad/desktop. the easiest way might be to create a pattern link and open that in the iPad app. alternatively, you can save your pattern to a file, transfer it to the iPad, and import it there.

btw: transferring patterns between native app versions will be very easy within the Apple ecosystem: you can copy the pattern to the clipboard e.g. on the iPad and paste it into the plugin running on your Mac (since clipboards are shared if logged in with the same Apple ID)

but yeah, pattern links/files work across all versions of tahti.

Great, got it to work, and thank you for your help!

But when I load it into the auv3 version in Drambo I get this ‘loading pattern from link…’ message and it kind of freezes. I have to restart Drambo and then the message is gone and I can work inside Tahti.

seems like another bug that needs fixing!

Can confirm the frozen message state for AUM as well, and just posted this bug in the Discord channel. Nonetheless, what a great app.

Coincidentally, I sold my Digitakt today, and literally right after sending out the parcel, stumbled upon tahti. I won’t miss the Digitakt . . .

@httnn Please let me know if this isn’t the right place for specific comments on Tahti, I tried searching for a Discord channel but cannot find it.

That been said, when using the randomization button on the synth part it often happens the level dips down close to 0% and you will have to manually set it higher to hear the sound. I think it would be better if the level would be unaffected by the randomizer.

you can join the Discord via https://tahti.studio/discord

i’ll asume you’re talking about the “randomise entire parameter page” button, it’s indeed not optimal that it also randomises the level parameter on the synth page. i’ve been planning to add a feature at some point that allows excluding certain parameters from randomisation, but it’s a good idea that some parameters could be locked by default.

Wow, only just stumbled on this- what a great Elektron-like groovebox! I look forward to getting this for my iPad but the VST3 is working great for me
