I don’t know whether it improved my sound design skills, but I found it very useful to better understand what is going on when you turn knobs in a subtractive synth. The exercises also helped me understand the basics of a sound, and now I feel I have a better sense about what to start trying if I want to modify a preset to go more in X direction.
Probably nothing that you can’t learn tweaking and watching videos, but I enjoyed the structure, the path, and the effective use of my time.
