So after writing that thread with mini reviews on gear I’ve owned I started thinking about the Waldorf Iridium again, I liked it but mine was glitchy I wouldn’t mind giving it another shot…Then I remembered the Iridium core and Iridium keyboard version exist so I thought maybe I could pick up a different version maybe now that it’s been out a while that the prices have come down etc but then I noticed that the prices actually went up…and not just in the second hand market but also new? I feel like I’ve seen this before (maybe with the digitakt or syntakt) But the price is so much more I thought maybe I was tripping so I found my old receipt and although I bought a demo unit I remember it was only maybe a couple hundred off the list price:
I understand the bullshit with economy causing the price of eggs and milk to go up and there’s a lot of manufactured inflation going on these days but how does one justify this? at what point did the price change so drastically and for what purpose? I feel like I’ve seen this before nothing so blatant and major. Does anyone have an insight on this?
A significant part of this, though not precisely sure of the specific effects, related to that you are a U.S. buyer, is that at end of last year Waldorf changed their distributor in North America to American Music and Sound. It had been Korg. I know that in the past the prices in North America have been significantly higher than the currency equivalent in Europe.
Not sure how much this currently affects things, but to move your topic along you should be looking at Waldorf prices in Europe as well.
Also, within the Waldorf Iridium line was the confused starting price of Core relative to Desktop… too close, and the Desktop version of it increased by 800 very quickly in the states, and another 200 shortly after.
I have a Core, new at 1799 from a month ago. I held off until such a thing happened and quite happy with it, though I still find it 200 or so overpriced.
3500 for desktop is hillariously overpriced.
I’m still hopeful that the screen won’t fall out of Core. Jeepers
I’d have gotten this if it weren’t for fear of losing time to screen-drop repair:
Man, do I feel lucky reading this. The Iridium Desktop is my favorite HW synth. I bought mine new for $1,899 (after a $500 off coupon from Guitar Center that someone here on Elektronauts was giving away). That was 2.5 years ago.
Just last night, I was telling my wife that I want to sell my OT MKII, that I’d probably need to sell it for about $950, and see that they are selling for $1,599 new (I think I paid $1,299 when I bought it a few years ago. I’ve barely used it, so “like new” condition. To my surprise, she said she thought I should keep it, in case I ever decide I want to start using it again.
