So my Syntakt stopped booting into the working state after the 1.40a update . It’s supposed to come back exactly where you left it, unsaved stuff and all. Mine boots into a completely empty new project every time. My work isn’t lost I can save it to the drive and load it back from the project menu, but on power up it’s just not there. Every boot is a blank slate.
It’s not just project stuff either. Mute mode goes back to green global every boot, and the personalize settings don’t stick. So it’s global settings too.
Saving a project manually works fine, and func+yes / func+no works for patterns. So the drive isn’t dead, it’s just that nothing gets written automatically.
Stuff I already did, nothing helped:
empty reset
factory reset
reinstalled the OS, on 1.40A now
two different power supplies
test mode, no errors
It’s a 2022 unit I bought secondhand so no warranty. Was fine until recently. About 50 project slots in use.
I have a ticket open with Elektron and sent them a video of all of it. Just wondering if anyone here has hit this and actually found the cause. Found a couple of old threads with the same thing but nobody posted how it ended. Also is FORMAT +DRIVE worth a shot? Factory reset only wipes slot 1 so most of the drive has never been cleared.
Sounds to me like the FRAM chip is either messed up or died.
If it’s messed up and a factory reset and disk wipe doesn’t restore it then the only thing to do is send it back to Elektron to be looked at.
could be but than the fact func+yes func+no combo working makes it feel more like a bug than a hardware thing but maybe i am hopfull wishing haha i’ll do the wipe and update on how it goes
They might be using more of the FRAM than before, or using a different area, which exposed a bad location in it or something. ![]()
It doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem with the firmware.
Mine also does this and I was told to send it for repairs. Unfortunately I would have to send it all the way home to Australia (I live in Thailand) so have decided to just live with it. Oddly, last week it saved its state after turning off, only happened once which was weird.
so the wipe did nothing , and i did read your issue which brought me to the same conclusion mine is not under warrenty anymore , and it happned real close to the 1.4 update so still a suspect in my eyes .
but could be presistent memory capcitor chip ort whatever, atlest as far as i can gather from reading around here . as far as i know where i live we only have dealers for elektron no actual approved place i might have to take it to a general synth tech or send it to sweden , i can live with it but it is annoying .
so you are saying your didnt degrade further than this ?
I had a similar issue recently and the repair shop told me that it was a capacitor issue. They changed it and now it’s fine. The only difference with your issue is that my ST booted up with a previous state of the Project, not a blank one.
