Syntakt vs Digitone?

Hi everyone
I’ve been on the forum for a while, but I’ve haven’t got an an Elektron box yet. So haven’t been posting much.

I’m in the search for a percussive synth. Something that gives me a lot of sound design flexibility for ambient plucky melodies.

In sweden i could get the digitone keys cheaper than the synthtakt. What what would you get?

I like that the digitone keys got a keyboard but i’m thinking the synthtakt is more versitaile for sound design with it’s analog voices…

Any thoughts?

Kind regards

this might help

Thanks

I’ve read the whole thread now, but i’m non the wiser…
The thread mentions that the digitone is the deeper instrument for completing tracks and the synthtakt is the more basic rythmic instrument.

Anyone got an preference for a synth for percussive melodies?

it’s a tough call. maybe youtube em to see which you prefer sonically?

digitone has only 4 tracks, but they’re polyphonic. trickier to design sounds than syntakt as fm can be confusing.

Syntakt has restricted parameters. a double edge sword. easier to design sounds, more sweet spot, but not as open ended. having said that it’s still pretty flexible. no polyphony, but 12 mono tracks.

your call.

Percussive melodies, its just a perfect way to describe the Syntakt

That’s the problem, i like them both , as far as youtube videos go…

I’m leaning towards the synthtakt, but the keys of the digitone keys is a nice feature,

I just don’t know 🤷

I would have said, melodic percussions but “Percussive melodies” is more poetic

I have both a Digitone Keys and a Syntakt. I love them both, and I even had a Digitone before the Keys.
I would suggest for your usecase a Syntakt.

Thanks!
Yes i’m thinking the synthtakt is the better choice. I just don’t want to be restricted by it’s limited parameters…

I don’t think it’s really that restricted. Or maybe it’s a good thing and pushes me to dig more for sound designs. Don’t forget you have the LFOs that can act as Envelopes as well.
Take a listen at what @Jeanne does with hers. Even if you’re not into heavy industrial stuff, it’s really impressive.

this :point_up_2:

it’s restricted parameters make it easier to experiment in a way.

the lfo’s can be envelopes. they expand sound design possibilities a lot.

it’s great for melodic sounds.

Wow, that was awsome!

Not the sound i’m after just now. But she made me want an analog 4 instead

You almost got me convinced of an synthtakt, but that analog 4 sounds great!

Maybe i should be on the lookout for an analog 4 mk1 instead

I love the A4 as well, but it’s even less immediate than the Digitone to get interesting and original sounds.

Do you have the chance to try them in a shop?
I think that would clarify pretty quickly.

No i haven’t, the closest shop that carries them is in Stockholm 10 miles away 🤷

But i’m kinda settled on the synthtakt. But the digitone keys is a good deal

I have the Digitone Keys and like it a lot, but the Analog Four mk1 (which I also have and like) is the best bargain in synths currently. Among other things, it is a great drum machine.
