I appreciate the shout! Regretfully i no longer have my beloved Syntakt. I sold my Digitone 1 and Syntakt to pick up the Tone 2.

Really miss it tho, even thought about swapping them. But need to spend some more quality time with the Digitone 2 before going back

@Nils thanks for initiative and thanks for tagging me!

Maybe it is worth to create one Syntakt Science Lab thread per machine. For example “SSL - CY Alloy”. Interesting patterns can spin up interesting discussions. Mixing several discussions in one thread quickly create a mess.

This thread can serve as main. Aggregate refs to all SSL threads.

That, or we just stick to one for now if we’re worried about getting too scattered?

Trying some Alloy stuff and I hate it already in a fun way!

Thanks for the positive comments, and thanks to those who tagged more users! This is going to be fun! :sunglasses:

For those who sold their Syntakt, shame on you! You’re of course welcome to join if a Syntakt ends up on your desk again

Good thoughts on splitting this into specific sub-threads. I did think about that, and I really like the idea of keeping this thread for «meta» discussions like the format, suggestions for future SSLs etc, and dedicated threads for the labs.

But I’m a little worried it’ll be confusing to have one master thread and two sub-threads. Like, «where did I post that comment?».

So I’ve landed on a compromise:
I’ll open a new thread for the first SSL where you can post your contributions to SY Swarm AND CY Alloy. In that thread you can post your contributions, listen to others’, comment on them, discuss techniques etc

This current thread will serve as a reference thread for the rules, we can discuss and develop the format of the SSLs, suggest topics for future SSLs etc. I’ll update the first post to clarify after creating the new thread.

I hope this model will work out well. We’ll gather some experiences after the first round of labs, and make changes as needed.

Ok so the new thread is up. Post your contributions there :grinning:

If I have time indeed… but Syntakt is pretty quick to work with. Thanks for thinking of me.

RE: the whole concept here, we did a single machine challenge with CY ALLOY over in the [unofficial] Elektron Discord a year or two ago. It’ll be interesting to hear how the chops have changed.

@marccc I’m summoning you ^^

Cool! I think I have an abandoned CY Alloy only exploration stored somewhere on the ST already. Might have to revisit that

Is it OK to optionally post pattn syx files? I usually work in pattns, dont feel like having to switch projects just in order to science lab a lil while I’m working on my other stuff… just cuz I’ve ruined some dope pattns in my time just by switching projects midway and accidentally saving/not saving something, resulting in a mess…

Thank you so much, Nils, for this great initiative.
I can’t wait to listen to and analyze what’s going to be posted here!
I’m putting on my apron and heading into my lab kitchen!

Yeah that’s fine, just specify what kind of file you upload and all is good :+1:

Took my first crack at swarm-only last night. I’ll post it in the main thread later if I can still tolerate what I made yesterday. I don’t tend to use Swarm very often, but it’s a lot more versatile than I gave it credit for. I think I’d rather use other machines for most of the things I did, but it was fun transforming it Beyond its base palette.

Thanks for tagging me. Love the idea, don’t have the time and headspace for that kind of challenge right now. Will listen to the contributions and am curious to hear people’s experiences!

Edit: why are iPhone emojis turning into massive images? Haha

Well, I guess this is the post that makes me stop lurking here. Looking forward to participating!

I actually started using it recently on DN2 to save voices instead of using Unison. I wish it had the squarwave on Syntakt. It’s awesome for leads and basslines.
