Syntakt Science Lab #17: SD Natural

Chugging our way through the remaining machines! There are mostly snares and kicks left, and this time we’re delving into the analog SD Natural. This is a slight oddball as it consists of an oscillator, a noise generator and two filters, in addition to the track filter. Only the noise generator passes through the two dedicated filters.

Weird Science. FM-ing both tune and filter and using a bunch of probability and neighbor trig conditions. 3 Patterns, Bit of EQ on the master.

I found the first demos of the Erica Hexdrums to sound really cool. When playing around with SD Natural, some of the timbres reminded me a little of the Hexdrums, so I thought it might be fun to try and capture some of that wild, filtered, distorted and obnoxious vibe. I used the FX track and the SD Natural filters a lot in all of these. All straight from the Syntakt.

Revisited the “upside down Smack my bitch up” beat from the SY Bits lab. Thanks for the title Oxenholme

Sounds like a nice dusty analog drum machine sound.

That third one :open_mouth:
First time I really can’t get anything that feels like a good loop out of one of these challenges (yet) though, all i hear is snares and bad kicks coming from mine, coming back later!

Thanks peeps! Hang in there @aurelcast, sometimes the ST requires patience  I spent a lot of time fumbling around when I started with SD Natural, but eventually it started clicking.

More energetic beats at 160 bpm. The whole mix was high pass filtered through the FX track, to give a boxy and midrangey sound. Song mode for some quick pattern changes and automated mutes.

I’ve been sloppy with project files lately, sorry about that.
Here’s the SD Natural project file:

Thanks

Trying something else this time, so here’s a sentimental shuffle with far too much reverb.

I guess I made Tarnce?
Funnily, I made a bad snare, but first pass of mine that didn’t sound like video game music (I think).
