I’m the same way… which is why I now have the A4 and a Syntrx ![]()
Don’t forget … on each track we can change the patch of the A4 per step
The A4 is a bit more challenging to find the sweet spots but very rewarding when you do.
The perf macro set up is absolutely one of the best things a synth can offer when playing live.
Over time you’ll really dial it in yet still feel like you can grow with it.
As someone pointed out there’s key tracking on the A4 filters. This makes for really powerful bass sounds.
The oscillator feedback is super wild in the best way.
A4 also makes incredible drum sounds that seem to fit perfectly in the mix with all other sounds coming from the A4. All this with sound locks, slides and perf macros you can really do things other synths just can’t do.
My prediction is the A4 will make you ditch the Microfreak eventually.
Offer accepted on Syntakt, thanks for the input all, it’s appreciated. Now my former lecturer has a mint Octatrack sitting unused and I’m already clearing out unused stuff…
I don’t agree so much
I only keep the Syntakt as it’s nice for traveling
The overall sound of the analog four is way better… but it’s not offering so many features as the syntakt
so producing a full track wich Analog Four is a bit limited … with Syntakt it just doesnt sound as good .
Why?
The sound has a less nice character and when many elements play together it starts to sound muddy.
Consider getting A4 and Syntakt (maybe used to save some money)
Well, I now have a Syntakt, was banging out techno on the train home in minutes and I immediately love the core sound.
Also, contrary to what the old song might say, it’s actually only an hour to Tipperary and I even had a nice pint of Guinness while I was there.
Edit: an hour in and I’m in absolutely in love, this thing is wonderful and full of surprises!
Syntakt.
More immediate, less frustrating, wider range of sounds, more sweet spots, retrigs, pads for different velocities, scales.
Shines for kicks, bass (303 style or big dark distorted), good at claps, snares, FM. Hats are better on analog cymbal.
Analog FX bus is really fun to play with.
Stick to two boxes, don’t let GAS mess up with your mind. DT and ST is all you need.
Or the Noise machine if you’re into shaker-like sounds. A little LFO on attack and/or decay can sound very nice.
Yeah I don’t think I need anything more for what I’m doing tbh, I’m going to spend some time getting good on these two before anything else. If I end up drifting back to IDM I’ll think about an A4/Octa but for now I’m very happy. I’m kinda feeling spoilt having freed up the Digi from the fundamentals, and having eight whole channels of sampling to play with. 20 tracks is a lot of tracks.
