When my friend Kevin got an ST a few months ago, we decided to remake a version of Iron Carbine by Joel Corelitz on the ST as a learning exercise. It was a cool experience, and we both learned a ton! I wanted to share the results up here.

This is pretty cool Gino, thanks for sharing! Your version has a little less sizzle to the synths and a little more slap to the kick, but the arrangement and overall tone are very nice. I really like seeing this type of remaking the reference track, you can learn a lot from that just by analyzing the arrangement and the tonal pallette. Challenge complete!

TBH - we could have gotten it even closer, but had to ask ourselves what were we learning by tweaking the snare endlessly? So we decided to move onto original work, and post what we had. That said, we did put effort into getting the arp and lead very close.

Nice work! The drunkiness of the starting Pad is missing but it’s an overall success.
Thanks! The pad was a challenge, in fact I’d be curious if anyone could nail that on the ST. It sounds like an orchestral sample with a lot of tape warble to me.
Awesome! I’ve been doing much more of this sort of thing, just to exercise my brain and give me more experience mixing and thinking about putting sounds together.
You did a great job. Even if the details may not be exactly the same, the broad strokes are there and so is the feeling. I hadn’t heard of the composer or the game the OST is for, but glad to know them now.
