Hey there,
So, using Syntakt with overbridge to multi track record stuff, I just realized the tracks recorded are mono.
Any idea why ? Here’s a picture of the configuration, with the example of syntakt track 1 :
Disclaimer: I never owned a syntakt. I own an AR2, which is kind of similar, when it comes to voices and the „stereofield“.
I think, its because the syntakts voices are mono. Just the effects and the „positioning“ of those voices within the main mix stereofield are stereo.
At least, that is what happens within a lot of synths.
Syntakt’s tracks are mono.
You can pan them in the stereo field of Main L/R outputs though…
Yeah I know they are mono, but I didn’t think the pan from the amp page would &pply only on the main output, even if now it seems logical somehow. Too bad, means any modulation assigned to the paning will not be recorded in multitrack recording ?
same as if you had a mixer with mono sources running to it. you can pan them within the mixer, but if you want that panning assignment, you have to record from its main out. if you tap into each of them individually via direct outs, that’ll be in mono; i.e. no panning.
alternative is to record each track (or at least the ones where panning is important) one-by-one from the main outputs.
Yep this has always been the case with individual track outs via OB for Elektron devices
You can check it in the Overbridge manual → B.7 SYNTAKT
Ovebridge takes the track output before PAN device. Therefore, it is mono. And any modulations applied to PAN and after it are ignored.
It also takes the signal before the overall ST Mixer as well, so the Mixer page won’t affect track levels.
OB disregards pan and mixer level settings within the ST (and I think all other Elektron boxes), I guess on the assumption that levels and panning will be set in the DAW instead.
If I’m correct the mixer can be activated for external use with overbridge in the parameters, which is why the mono thing feels a but weird to me. Especially with paning, as I’m using quite often very fast lfos on pan for sounddeign purposes !
do you see the “post mixer” option in your screenshot?
I know that the pattern volume parameter impacts the track levels as they appear in the OB stereo track recording. Stems are totally unimpacted by mixer level settings though.
